For anyone who's read Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man:

If you had to give the Invisible Man a name, what would it be? Looong story, but I need this for my English class.

Is it just supposed to be some random, average name? Like Bob or something? Or is it supposed to have some deeper meaning?
Try using a baby names search engine and look for names that mean certain qualities that you like about the character. Resiliant, impressionable...anything that you discussed in class perhaps.

Clarence = bright, clear
Rod/Rodney/Roddy = from the island clearing
Synclair/Sinclair = a clear sign
Whitney = from clear water

I agree with lostwallflower-- try http://www.babynames.comhttp://www.babynames.com>http://www.babynames.com ... it's a really great site where you can just type in the meaning, and they'll give you a bunch of names.
