Claims that Palin is the most popular of the four major candidates and polls are where they were before the convention...even.

Who are these 58% that like Palin? How stupid is this country?

It's very scary...and I wish I was surprised.

Doodle, I am also prepared for McCain to be ahead in some polls, but I think the HC hold outs will all come home to roost after they hear more about moose hunting and clearlt see and understand the ultra conservative views of Palid.

The sheer predictability of this scares me. A woman comes from obscurity with a mediocre education, track record and no demonstrated achievement on the national level -- yet possessing a "narrative" -- performs a carefully rehearsed and coached speech written by a Bush speechwriter that decries Washington, and is adored by 58% of the nation. She is then whisked away from prying eyes and questions. Read for the office, not ready for the "leftist" press. Cowardice and ignorance spun as strength and moral courage -- an old story, and alas, one that doesn't keep people from power.

The grand irony here is that Sean Hannity accused John Edwards of "class warfare". In the case of Obama, I suppose there's no virtue any longer in rising above one's humble station in life.

Auggie, I guess we all just need to commit to make efforts that we have not made in the past! I see that many here donated yesterday. I need to plan a trip to help out in Indiana or Wisonsin. (Not much to do here in Chicago.)

I know. I got an email yesterday asking me to help campaign in PA, not NJ or NY, where I've lived (and will stay blue -- even NJ, which the Star Ledger suggests will have a very negative response to Palin). I think I just might go.

With respect to trying to make sense out of all the polling data out there, I highly recommend the website www.fivethirtyeight.com for their analysis. It's decidedly wonky, and I can't pretend to understand all the details of their statistics, but I find it helpful to filter out much of the noise in the polling data.

Let's see if she's still popular once they air all of the fact checking. The RNC definitely had the advantage by going last. Let's hope Obama can fire people back up. He is a lawyer- he ought to be pretty persuasive!

Ohh road trip! Gotta love rolling up your sleeves and getting on the doors! Sets this little field lead head to whirring about volunteers -- and snacks...must have the snacks!

I live for volunteers!

These polls could make my head hurt --
if my team and I didn't spend many hours a weeks on doors talking to real live voters.....because of my I.E. status I can't report specific districts/numbers/details (I think everyone knows my state) but I will say that my numbers look much better for Obama than anyone could expect given we are working a 'locked up tight' Red state classification.

But remember.. Rupert Murdoch recently stated that he thinks Obama is going to win by a LANDSLIDE. And Murdoch is one of the most conservative motherf*ckers out there.

It was months ago that Murdoch said that. (unless he's said it again recently that I'm not aware of) Many things have happened since then. Polls and opinions are all useless in politics. They're biased and only measure the feeling of that single moment in which they're spoken, nothing more. You never know what will happen tomorrow. Did anyone expect a Palin pick before it happened? And how many other surprises have hit us? So who knows what the next two months will bring.

I'm hopeful but took the Canadian residency acceptance test to make sure I would be eligible for relocation if need be.

It's all about turnout. And whether the cell phone generation, not really polled, will show up that one day in November.
