I feel so sad now. What a loss. I love his rendition of "America the Beautiful" the best. "Hit The Road Jack" and "Georgia On My Mind."

Ray's definitive version of the Johnny Mercer classic "Georgia on my Mind" has always been a favorite song of mine. You will be missed, Ray. Rest in peace.

I carried Mr. Charles's luggage when I was a hotel porter in my mid/late-teens. These are the things I most remember: He was very handsome, his assistant was very handsome, Ray Charles was a good tipper, Ray Charles smelled GREAT. I have no idea what he was wearing but I can still recall the scent. Oh, and he smiled and laughed when I, in my mid/late-teens and my heavy duty punk rocker life, said, "It's an honor to carry your bags, sir."
