Today marked the final episode for the educational television show Reading Rainbow, which was one of my favorite shows growing up. Apparently educational tv only has room for shows that teach kids the basic tools for reading and there's no money left over for a show that really digs into why reading is so great. Of course, I freely admit the importance of making sure kids learn phonics and the other basics, but I can't help regretting the end of this fine show. Anyone else out there used to watch Reading Rainbow and care to share favorite episodes or books that were covered? I was always a fan of Watch the Stars Come Out, on the episode where you got to learn about the restoration of the Statue of Liberty :)
Ah well, farewell to a great show that encouraged my love of reading!

Awwwww. I loved this show. Add me to the list of people who can still sing the theme song. My favorite part was the book reviews. "But you don't have to take my word for it!"

Besides Sesame Street, I think Reading Rainbow was the foremost TV show that made me who I am today. I LOVED it.

I just love the idea of a room of young hipsters in which LeVar Burton gets a huge standing ovation.

You know, whenever I thought about Reading Rainbow it was that library number that always came to mind.

That was awesome. I love how they all sang along.
