Posted: 9/2/08 at 12:27pmWell the important #s are WHERE the polling is taking place. After all, as illustrated in 2000 - it's the electoral college votes that matter, not public opinion.

True, but there has been little state-level polling data recently. Also, the possibility of the electoral college resulting in a different outcome from the popular vote requires a razor thin popular margin, plus the models I've seen actually indicate it is more likely for this to favor Obama than McCain, though both scenarios remain highly unlikey.
Additional thought: I've resisted the urge to refer to this increase in Obama's numbers as a 'baby bump', so I would appreciate it if everyone else exhiited the same restraint.
