Reflections for the New Year

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on October 3. For me, this is a very reflective and spiritual time of year. My thoughts dwell on those who have been so affected by hurricanes and I pray their courage to survive and heal. It is also the anniversary of my father's death. He was a cruel and abusive man, but he did give me my life. What are other folks reflecting on at this special time of year? Please post your thought and remember, you don't have to be Jewish.

Is it customary to make New Year's Resolutions during Rosh Hashanah? If so, Corine should resolve to avoid pizza because it makes her fart.

We usually don't make resolutions on Rosh Hashanah. However, we use the time to perhaps adopt a new practice that will enable us to grow spiritually. My suggestion to Corinne is to try Beano.

Yeah...all the craziness this year really gives me a lot to think about of the next few weeks. I went to an amazing speech today that really got me in the mood for the holidays. I wish all you Jews out there on the board a really meanigful and introspective Rosh Hashanah.

LOTS of Beano...Lots of Cholent, plus growing up in a house of all boys did not lend itself to pretty smells after lunch.

I just did a search on Beano and it is not kosher. One may take non-kosher medcine for a life threatening condition. For instance, years ago I took insulin that was derived from pigs. That was the only kind available. Today, insulins are derived from human DNA. I don't think farting is considered a life threatening illness.

In my house it was.

But there are kosher brands similar to Beano, I am pretty sure.

There are many brands for vegetarians that kosher.

The people around Corine may feel that her farting is life threatening....and she's always surrounded by people. They just can't get enough of her.

I keep thinking about the people in the Gulf areas who have no synagogues left. Their Torah's have even been deystroyed!. New ones take a very long time to create because they are written by hand. Do you think G-d was trying to teach some type of lesson here?

Back on topic- my surgery is now scheduled for the 2nd day of Rosh Hashona- well just after- I keep thinking of the phrase on Yom Ha Kippor- "Who shall live & who shall die- Who by flood & who by fire..."
I wish all of my fellow BWW "tribe" members & their families a happy & healthy New Year and " May the L*rd SEAL you in the Book of Life"

I used to sing that one all the time when I was little. I used to sing another one about a shofar but I don't remember how it goes.
