This was part of Renee's performance at the Nobel Priza gala. Remember Renee, what happens in Oslo doesn't necessarily stay in Oslo.
Renee Fleming as you've never heard her before

LOL! I am so glad I took the time to listen to that. HILARIOUS. Thanks for sharing!
P.S. I think this was my favortie part:
"I could have spread my wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiings!!!"
I have a a recording of Finning soprano Karita Mattila singing "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend"--but Karita seems to get the joke.
Rene has a pretty good sense of humor, I am sure she intended that to be a bit over the top in a campy sort of way. Thanks for posting that, though.
LMFAO....
ahhh Renee...please don't...stick to Arias in foreign languages...

She's obviously joking. She actually started out as a jazz singer. Listen to her Broadway duet CD with Bryn Terfel. It's amazing!
How drunk was she? Honestly, six seconds in and I had to turn it off.
I am going to have to self-hypnotize in order to forget that.
It was intended to be humorous.
But is the Nobel Peace Prize Gala Concert the best place to try vocal humour?
It was intended to be humorous.
Guess you had to be there.
If you listen to the end, the audience obviously is in on the joke and cheers enthusiastically. The opera queens at Parterre.com, who are notoriously and fiercely bitchy, obviously left out the introduction to her performance that put it in context.

I've seen her do this bit in concert. It is a joke. It's not a terribly funny joke, but her intention is to tell a joke.
Opera singers aren't known for their ability to crack people up, and I'll praise any brave opera singer for even trying.
Has anyone heard Birgit Neilsen sing this song? It is amazing. She sounds like Miss Piggy until the very end of the song -- where she hits a trememndous high C.
no! where can we hear that?

Oh, thank goodness it's a joke, because that 7th at the end is just painful.
Never been a Renee Fleming fan. After listening to that, I never will be, either.

Listen to Flemming do "Ain't It A Pretty Night" and tell me she isn't amazing.
She is a remarkable singer.
Sorry. Not a fan.
We saw her in Rusalka. Glorious.
I have the DVD of Rusalka....AHHHMAZING...
I just sang "Song to the Moon" in Czech this semester, so after I did it in performance I wanted to see how I stacked up to a great...
I'm now a big Renee fan.
She's a distinctive and intelligent artist, and she has many detractors. All the greatest opera divas always have, and some Broadway stars have that love-her-or-hate-her effect on people too.
