re: Renewed appreciation for Mr. Tony Randall

I used to love Tony Randall until I read his autobiography and found out he was a homophobic jerk.

Really? I always considered him to be very deeply in the closet.

I did too. His homophobic attitude could have very well derived from that.

Deeply closteded men are very often homophobic, Eris. They do it for lots of reasons, including self-hatred and attempts at deflecting suspicion.

I can't find the book at the moment but it's here somewhere. He tells a long, vivid story about being forced to share a dressing room with one of "them." Usual crap.

I really did love him- Dr. Lao, Odd Couple, his game show appearances. I read the book when I was younger and naive and actually wrote him a letter of how disappointed I was, how quite a few of his co-stars probably thought HE was gay, blah blah blah.

Disappointing.
