Rent audition song

My school is doing RENT for our musical. I was wondering do you think Santa Fe from Newsies is OK for RENT? I know it's not rock or even remotely the style of the show, but both my voice teacher and I agree that it's the best song I have ever done. The director knows me well if that changes things at all, I'm just worried that it is too different from RENT. Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

Who exactly are you auditioning for? Or are you just shooting to get in to the production?

I'd say it's okay. If you can sing it well then you are showing a good bit of vocal range and despite the fact it isn't pop, it is a solid comtemporary musical theatre song. Go for it.

I agree, even though it isn't the style per se, it's a great piece and if it fits you very well go for it :)
