Several sites are reporting that California Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher may introduce a bill as early as today:

Okay, it's a bill. We have to call for support and get co-sponsors!
Urge your representatives to hear our voice:

I read that this could be a huge test for Obama. Can he avoid Clinton's mistakes? Will it cause him to spend capital he needs for other more pressing issues? Will it cause what unity there is to be severed, particularly with a galvanized conservative base? Will he put off liberals/gays if he waffles?
It's a great thing--and our military needs the personnel. But it's possibly horrible timing so soon.
I pray that it goes over effortlessly and painlessly.
We hope for the best.
who's we? not that i necessarily oppose this, but i am curious of whom you are the designated spokesperson.

I'm more interested in the Massachusetts couples who are suing the federal government:
"Now Ritchie, Bush and more than a dozen others are suing the federal government, claiming the act discriminates against gay couples and is unconstitutional because it denies them access to federal benefits that other married couples receive, such as pensions and health insurance."

i blame bush.
The opinions of the country have shifted since the early days of the Clinton administration. Not that there won't be strong opposition from conservatives, but this shouldn't cost Obama as much political capitol as it did Clinton, especially since it's being initiated in Congress and Obama's not the one pushing it.
