Posted: 8/31/04 at 2:35amSon - something to keep in mind is an overview of historical progression. What seems unbearable at the moment may be an actual improvement over conditions just a very short while ago. We, as a species, have not shown a tendency to move smoothly forward. Our progression seems to have been through a series of lurching bounds - but for the most part, inexhorably forward. The difficulty we face, especially within the American culture of 'it's all about me, and I want it NOW,' is how to maintain a sense of the whole of our existence, rather than just viewing the snippet we happen to be occupying.

I am thoroughly enjoying this, but I need to go to bed. What grates me is the lack of caring in this world. I have discussed this with my friends quite a bit, and government was my complaint tonight, but it is the fact that there IS such a sense "it's all about me, I want it now" disturbs me. I am Catholic (Totally different discussion for a different thread I know, but that;'s not my point.) Our church supports a parish down in Haiti that runs several clinics and a school. After the revolution last year food almost came to a standstill. The kids who went to the school were only getting a meal or two a week which was down from a meal every day when they were in class. This was the only time a lot of these kids got food of any substance. As a college student I have no money, but I still helped out with the Haiti mission as much as I could. (Still do.) Whether it was dividing up vitamins for kids to send down there or helping out at the bingo hall that is run to help support the mission. I just don't understand a lot of things I guess. How is it that we are so lucky yet we don't appreciate it and seem clueless to many of the sufferings of others. I dunno I am probably just rambling again. We don't see these people suffering and it's almost like we do believe ignorance is bliss in our society. Our priest was saying how much of a difference it makes to put a face to those suffering and less fortunate. While we have so much to offer them, I think they have much more to offer us in a way. They show us what is really important in life. (off on a tangent again.

Too many doors just opened in your post, so it is time to call it a night. The world will still be there to figure out when you awake
Rest well in peace.

"The Republicans want to make ... abortion illegal! What right do they have to make personal life choices...?"
What right do you have to make a personal life choice and have sex, and then make the personal life choice of SOMEONE ELSE - YOUR UNBORN BABY - and kill them?
