Fishing permit violations. A blue-collar husband who racked up a DUI citation as a 22-year-old. An unmarried teenage daughter who is pregnant and a nasty child custody battle involving a family member.

All of this, to one degree or another, has surfaced in recent days as a result of efforts to discredit or undermine Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. But these revelations may have the opposite effect: In one sense, they could reinforce how remarkably unremarkable she is.

Said Nick Ayers, executive director of the Republican Governors Association. “Any news that comes out about her is not going to hurt her because it reinforces the point that she is authentically one of us.”

McCain's wife, Cindy, told an interviewer over the weekend that Alaska's proximity to Russia bolstered Palin's credentials, and Palin has pointed to her leadership of the Alaska National Guard and her Army son's imminent service in Iraq as evidence of expertise.

She lives near RUSSIA!

This is why she needs to be nailed on her connections to a secessionist organization. People aren't going to give a crap about the personal stuff. They didn't with Clinton, they won't with her.

Colorado Republican Party Chairman Dick Wadhams on Monday called Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin "a great choice" as John McCain's running mate on the GOP presidential ticket, and blasted Democratic attacks on Palin being unqualified as a former small-town mayor.

"She rallies the conservative base, but while at the same time she makes our ticket even more appealing to swing voters who are going to decide this election," Wadhams told PolitickerCO.com at the Four Points by Sheraton Minneapolis hotel. "And she's got more executive experience than Barack Obama and Joe Biden combined."

Wadhams, who is running former U.S. Rep. Bob Schaffer's U.S. Senate campaign in Colorado, also said Democrats "immediately disparaged rural America again" by pointing out that two years ago, Palin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska -- a town with an estimated population of 8,471.

You attack Sarah, you attack all small town America!

Pressed on whether Republican Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, is truly ready to be vice president, or president if need be, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R., Ohio) said that no one is truly ready to be president....“We’ve all started new jobs from time to time in our career. Most of you can remember the first day that you spent on every one of those new jobs because when you got it you thought, ‘Oh my God, how am I going to do this?’” Boehner told reporters at a lunch today sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor. “Nobody’s qualified on the first day. I don’t care whether it’s Barack Obama, whether it’s John McCain…. you’re not going to be qualified the first day you walk into the White House. But like all of us we grow into our new roles. And I have no doubts that John McCain is going to grow into his new role as president of the United States very well. I have no doubts that Sarah Palin can grow into her role as vice president.”

Asked if it was possible that Obama could also grow into the role, Boehner said: “Maybe he could.”

Sarah's a grow-er, not a show-er.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent who caucuses with Democrats but supports McCain, told Schieffer that McCain’s decision to add Palin to the ticket “is a little bit like opening a door and letting some fresh Alaska air into Washington.

“I think here he wanted to send the message, get somebody fresh, somebody really who represents the other America outside of Washington where people don't care whether you have an 'R' or a 'D' after your name, they just want you to get something done to help them deal with the problems they have,” Lieberman said. “And Sarah Palin comes from that other America.”

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann believes the Palin family deserves credit for standing by their daughter, who will keep the baby and marry the father. But doesn’t the episode expose some hypocrisy on the part of the abstinence-education crowd? Bachmann counsels tolerance. “Life isn't perfect for any of us. I think this is something that happens to a lot of American families. Each one of us has different challenges in our life — the question is, how we deal with it. Sarah Palin is making a choice to love her daughter, support her daughter, be there for her daughter and her grandchild.”

I find it interesting that Sarah Palin praises her daughter for making the right choice, when Palin and McCain want to take choice away from women.

Meanwhile, the father's page on facebook/myspace stating that he didn't want kids has been taken down.

"As the chief executive of the nation's largest state, Ms. Palin oversees some of the country's largest energy reserves."

AH yes- as they pointed out at the convention last night, it's the "Largest state- bigger than Texas and California COMBINED!" In terms of size- sheer vacant land, literally frozen tundra- Alaska wins. But it's dead last in population- with less than 1/5 the population of Chicago.
Palin has REAL experience

Oh, and now they are done discussing the vetting process. F**king cowards.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- John McCain's campaign, in the midst of waging war against the media over Sarah Palin and the campaign's vetting of her, is apparently picking up its toys and going home.

Politico's Mike Allen says that McCain advisor Steve Schmidt plans to put out a statement on Wednesday that will read only: "The McCain campaign will have no further comment about our long and thorough process."

This move seems to have been brought on by the latest in a series of reports that have made the process look, actually, decidedly less than thorough. In Wednesday's Washington Post, Dan Balz reports that Palin "was not subjected to a lengthy in-person background interview with the head of Sen. John McCain's vice presidential vetting team until last Wednesday in Arizona, the day before McCain asked her to be his running mate, and she did not disclose the fact that her 17-year-old daughter was pregnant until that meeting."

The bulk of this party are used to having their leaders tell them what to think--to ignore the dissenters from the Godless, secular, elitist world.

It happens in church. It happened with Bush. It's going to happen with Palin.

Especially since baby daddy wasn't part of the family until they announced Bristol was pregnant. If he was, he would have been at the first press conference. Just sayin'

So.....Levi Johnston has been invited to join the Palin family as Mom accepts the VP nomination tonight- Isn't that sort of a slap in the face to "Traditional Family Values" we've heard so much about? If you welcome the unmarried sex partners of your kids, why not their committed gay lovers? Why is Sarah Palin attacking marriage? Won't ANYONE defend Marriage against this Republican attack?

James Dobson, head of Focus on the Family, called Ms. Palin no less than a blessing.

"A lot of people were praying, and I believe Sarah Palin is God's answer," he told conservative leaders at a forum this week.

In a statement issued after the daughter's pregnancy was revealed, Mr. Dobson was no less supportive.

"They should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances," he said.
She is a blessing!

These delegates remind me of Stepford delegates! It's like they are trying so hard to believe that Sarah is the best choice. Their eyes are bugged out and they have this fake smile on their face! Also seems like they all have the same answers. And, they all sound like Elisabeth Hasselback. I just hope the Independent voters go to the Democratic side!

As I posted in another thread, there are mumbles at the convention that Palin will be stepping down next week.

The other thing that annoys me is that every time an interviewer asks a question about Sarah Pallin, the interviewee always turns it around into an Obama slam. When they say you shouldn't slam Sarah due to sexism, then you can't slam Obama due to racism. (it's all perceived- I really don't believe that)
