#0Review: Sky Captain... (2004)

At the risk of sounding unpopular, I must say that 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow' is the best film I have seen all year (next to 'Kill Bill: Vol. 2' and 'Garden State').

Say what you will about the fact that most of the film was made from a computer. I honestly can't remember having this much fun, while watching a movie. It was exciting, fun, and intruiging.

Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow (whom also played opposite each other in the mesmerizing 'Talented Mr. Ripley') have terrific chemistry as pilot Joe 'Sky Captain' Sullivan and reporter Polly Perkins, respectively. They are both loose and winning. Paltrow, after giving underrated turns in 'Ripley' and 'Sylvia' (which should have merited her an Oscar nomination), is especially good. Angelina Jolie all but steals the show as Franky Cook, the tough British commander. And, as always, Giovanni Ribisi is likable as Dex.

Unfortunately, this is not a film for everyone. Look at the title. If it sounds good to you, you'll probably love it. If not... Well, you know the rest.
