I really cannot imagine Sanchez being the starter without a younger, highly drafted quarterback in waiting.
I don't think Ryan is a bad coach so much as Tannenbaum was a horrific drafter and evaluator of personnel. I mean the guy's calling card was he was an expert of the NFL salary cap system.

Would not work. They had Tebow and would not play him. They need an experienced QB and have Sanchez as backup yo be released in 2014.Sanchez will never cut it.

Tebow was never brought in as a quarterback in waiting namely because he is not a quarterback. He was brought in to hype the team up and get fans to purchase seat licenses at the Meadowlands. If he was such a threat to Sanchez, he would have probably started and gotten more snaps with the starters. Instead, he was a gimmick, a distracting one, signed after Sanchez was given an undeserved contract extension.
And considering this draft is heavy on solid (though not amazing) college quarterbacks, it would be wise. Who would possibly want to come in to compete with Mark Sanchez besides guys who many other teams see as done? The only plausible free agents are in the vein of Brady Quinn and Matt Moore.

My family has had Jets season tickets since the late 60's. I have been going to games every sunday (or watching away games) religiously since I was a little kid. And, I can tell you, I have never seen anything more stupid then Jets fans reacting toward Tebow. They thing he is a good player (he isn't) and I am not saying Sanchez was great this year, however, when he made a simple mistake that even some of the great quarterbacks in the league would make, the fans booed him and called for Tebow.
Furthermore, Woody Johnson was perhaps too vocal about wanting Tebow to get under center more than he was while Rex Ryan disagreed with that notion. I am not saying that Sanchez was great this year at all. But, what I am saying is that things like this really did mess with his headspace a lot.

Up to a certain point this season Sanchez was playing exactly as he did in his rookie and sophomore seasons with the Jets not playing with an excellent defense they had in years past. You can point to the TDs he had last season but how many of those were deep throws and why was he still in the middle to bottom third of the league among quarterbacks in a record-breaking season across the board in numbers for the position? He was just never that good. He had a lot of hype because he came from a great college program and had the looks of a Broadway Joe.
I am beginning to question how much Woody Johnson actually thought of Tebow as the Quarterback or somebody to compete with Mark Sanchez, who again they had just extended with starters money. I think he saw such an acquisition that gave the Jets attention paid. They are competing for headlines with another team who won the Super Bowl. To me this was not like Favre where Johnson clearly did want the headlines and the guy to be under center too. It clearly seemed to be for $$$. He could have gone after Peyton Manning if he really wanted an upgrade in addition to a lot of media play but chose not to.
Tebow seemed like a desperate move and for Sanchez it had to send mixed signals. Still, he had to know that Ryan wanted nothing to do with Tebow and to me his lackluster play was just based on actual talent level than him being scared.
