Right ear plugged up

Posted: 11/8/06 at 9:39pmHelp. When I whistle I hear two tones, as the left ear is entirely plugged. Any suggestions as to what one can do until I call the doctor tomorrow AM?

hold your nose, close your mouth, and blow out. although that's probably not very good for your ears or sinuses.
or make a solution of warm water and peroxide and use it like ear drops.

That's funny you say that. Well, not really...
I have having been trouble hearing out of my right ear for a few days. I no longer can talk on the phone on that side and I have difficulty hearing what people say.
I've tried several things, none of them helped.

If you use this method make sure you exhale (I refuse to use blow out) very gently. People commonly blow really hard and it can create a perforation in your ear drum or potentially lead to infection.
Most drug stores sell the ear cleaning kits with the squirter and peroxide solution. You might try that.

I know it's a celebratory occasion, but why not just stop whistling until your appointment?
Just dance around on a tabletop and shout at the top of your lungs (like I'm doing) until then.

Do you think it's clogged from a cold? If so, try a saline nasal spray (no drugs in it, it's just saline - they sell it at pharmacies, Target, etc.). It will force you to have to blow your nose, which sometimes will clear a clogged ear. Also, maybe try taking a decongestant?

Posted: 11/9/06 at 10:19amIt could be earwax buildup. If it is, you don't want to to try force it out, because you could wind up having it cap your eardrum. See a doctor.

Posted: 11/9/06 at 11:59amTry running a Q-tip under hot water and swishing it around *gently* in your ear. That usually works for me.
