Here's a tutorial on how to make ringtones for the iPhone using the music that you already have in iTunes. It has a lot of steps to it...but it works.

Taryn I don't have a Mac.
Thanks, JustAGuy. I'll give that a try.
Edited to add... it took a while but I finally got it to work, and now I have a variation on my original ringtone on the new phone. THANKS!!!

I always get the best and fastest results with one of those simple and intuitive audio editors. I use Wavepad, but it costs money. Wavosaur is decent and is free. Editing is pretty simple to figure out. It will only save as a .wav file, but you should be able to export as an .mp3 if you download the encoder. It's in the FAQ on their website.

Many thanks everyone for the recommendations. I was sure y'all would come through!
I'll chec out some of those other sites as well, as I want to but a second ringtone on the phone for certain friends.
It's strange -- my answer tone tranferred over but they could not transfer the ring tones, and I couldn't buy them again from AT&T

"and I couldn't buy them again from AT&T"
Ringtones for the iPhone can only be purchased through the iTunes store, or created using the methods and programs others have already posted.
