in your opinion, who is the best rock drummer of all time?
Mine is a tossup between Keith Moon and Neil Peart
ever heard of men by the names of:
Buddy Rich?(perhaps more jazz than rnr)
John Bonham?
or
Mike Portnoy?
"attention has been paid"
for future reference...
Buddy Rich ( www.buddyrich.com ) is called by many "the best drummer of all time"
and Mike Portnoy ( www.mikeportnoy.com )has been the drummer for progressive metal band "Dream Theater" (my favorite band, btw) for 11+ years, amongst many other side projects and guest appearances.
While there is no doubt that Buddy Rich is one of the greatest drummers of all time, I have never known him to be associated with Rock and Roll.

phantom, digitaldreamdoor.com made a list of who they thought were the 100 greatest drummers in rock, and Neil was named #1.

Neal Peart? Rock and Roll? That's fricking prog-jazz fusion noodling.
You wanna hear the heart of rock and roll beating? Calling Meg White.
hey pab, i don't suppose you took notice to the fact that in parentheses is "perhaps more jazz than RNR" hmm, seems a little redundant.

Ah the Throwing Muses. YOU'RE the real Ramona, n69n.
I actually have a tie, two absolute favorites. Mr. Peter Prescott of the incredibly fantastic Mission of Burma. And, of course, Mr. Brian Viglione of the Dresden Dolls (pictured left).
I love the Dolls (and the Muses, for that matter)
for the name alone artimus pyle.
for the voice levon helm.

just for the drumming, i'll take ginger.
ginger baker is a good choice too, i hadn't even thought of that. i'd like to point out that the two "rock" drummers I named are in the top 15.
Dude, Moon the Loon. Nobody went crazy on a drumset quite like him.
that rocks... on digital dream door, The Who's Tommy is #65 for best movie musical. Long live Pete Townshend!
Chris Slade is a cool drummer, but not judging him on ability
Let think.. best guitarist..
Live Performance: Angus Young
Ability: Jimmy Page- Jimi Hendrix- Eric Clapton
My vote goes to Keith Moon.
