I'm looking for songs (not Broadway-related) that are considered romantic, but when you really listen to the lyrics you realize how creepy the song is. Any help would be great.

That song made my sister and I very suspicious of flies...

ww, what was that song you sang on my answering machine when you found my number from the DMV records in my hometown, which you got by dating the clerk?

That was pretty creepy.

How is "Baby, It's Cold Outside" creepy? Just wondering, I haven't heard the song that many times.

One time, Patti LuPone punched me in the face...

It was awesome.

Well, it's basically a guy plying a woman with alcohol and telling her she's not allowed to go home.

I really can't stay - Baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away - Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been - Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice - I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what's your hurry
My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry - Beautiful, please don't hurry
well Maybe just a half a drink more - Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it's bad out there
Say, what's in this drink - No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell - I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no, sir - Mind if I move a little closer
At least I'm gonna say that I tried - What's the sense in hurting my pride
I really can't stay - Baby don't hold out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

C'mon baby

I simply must go - Baby, it's cold outside
The answer is no - Ooh baby, it's cold outside
This welcome has been - I'm lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm -- Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious - Man, your lips look so delicious
My brother will be there at the door - Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious - Gosh your lips look delicious
Well maybe just a half a drink more - Never such a blizzard before

I've got to go home - Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me your comb - It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand - Your eyes are like starlight now
But don't you see - How can you do this thing to me
There's bound to be talk tomorrow - Making my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay - Get over that old out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

Jonathan Coulton has a song that's more creepy than romantic, but I think it still fits.

I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you
But I get the feeling that you don’t like it
What’s with all the screaming?
You like monkeys, you like ponies
Maybe you don’t like monsters so much
Maybe I used too many monkeys
Isn’t it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

I’m so into you
But I’m way too smart for you
Even my henchmen think I’m crazy
I’m not surprised that you agree
If you could find some way to be
A little bit less afraid of me
You’d see the voices that control me from inside my head
Say I shouldn’t kill you yet

You can download it from his website for free!

I Wanna Come Over by Melissa Etheridge. It basically says, "I'm coming over whether you want me to or not because I MUST be with you right now."

I always thought Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah was creepy and beautiful and romantic and strange and enigmatic. I truly love this song.

Well I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this:
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Well Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and i've walked this floor,
you know, I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
But love is not a victory march

It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do you
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Maybe there is a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

For added-fun creepiness involving Baby It's Cold Outside, check out the version with June Carter Cash and the comedy duo Homer and Jethro. Same song - but with banjos, jugs of corn-likker, and a potential threesome.

You Belong to Me

http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/shrek/youbelongtome.htm
See the pyramids around the Nile
Watch the sun rise
From the tropic isle
Just remember darling
All the while
You belong to me
See the market place
In old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember
When a dream appears
You belong to me

And I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too

Fly the ocean
In a silver plane
See the jungle
When it's wet with rain
Just remember till
You're home again
You belong to me

Oh I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too

Fly the ocean
In a silver plane
See the jungle
When it's wet with rain
Just remember till
You're home again
You belong to me

I love that song.
In high school, my friends in choir did Baby It's Cold Outside for a Christmas concert and it forever became known as the Date Rape Song.

Hallelujah was written/performed by Leonard Cohen. Pretty much all his songs are creepy, but for an audition try "The Singer Must Die"

Almost anything by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, a group from the 60s whose big numbers "Young Girl" and "The Girl is a Woman Now" are almost obsessed with having sex with underage girls. It's a little... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww......... but curiously, at the time they were released, both songs were *huge* hits.
