I also believe it makes great sense to have tiered unearned income along with different rates for short and long term investment. We need investors more than speculators.

I am sure everyone here understands that Romney's 13.9% tax rate is a capital gains tax NOT an income tax, right? Capital gains rates are traditionally lower than income tax rates for various reasons, primarily because
1. We want to ENCOURAGE people to invest their money because it is good for the economy.
2. The money being invested was already taxed at an income tax rate when it was earned, why should it be taxed again at a high rate when it is invested?

This is why it is dishonest for Pres. Obama to complain about Warren Buffett's secretary paying a higher tax rate than Buffett. THe President knows full well he is comparing two completely different taxes (cap. gains vs. income). He is counting on the ignorance of the American citizens to not realize this.

Newt Gingrich calls President Obama the food stamp president because 43% more people are on food stamps now than when he came into office. Federal tax dollars going to fund food stamps and other entitlements; there is nothing in the Constitution that gives the federal government the power to use tax dollars to fund such programs. If the federal government spent tax dollars on only that which it had Constitutional authority, we would not be in this mess we are in.

From the above linked article:

"Its true that the most recent figures from the Department of Agricultures Food and Nutrition Service show that a record number of people-some 46.2 million-are enrolled in the program. But the same data shows that more individuals were added to the program while George W. Bush was in office than have enrolled under Obamas presidency: Under Bush, the program grew by 14.7 million individuals; under Obama so far, its grown by 14.2 million, and, as of October, was declining."

So if you're looking to call someone the Foodstamp President, it looks like Bush is your man.

The food stamp program, now known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is administered by the Department of Agriculture. According to its figures, average food stamp participation during the Bush administration was 17 million in 2001 and increased to 28 million in his last full year as president. That's certainly nothing to brag about. But during Obama's three years in office, that number skyrocketed to 44 million by last year and was more than 46 million last October.
And don't forget, Bush was President for 8 years, Obama has only been President for 3.

That program particiption increases during bad economies is hadly surprising.

But the problem with using terms like "foodstamp president" is that it's meant to imply that folks are lying around eating free Cheetos instead of working.

Whereas, as has already been mentioned, the vast majority of those in the program are children, and of the adults, the vast majority are working.

I guess Gingrich would be the Let 'Em Starve President.

I think if Gingrich were President (God forbid) he would want to be the "Paycheck President".
Nothing wrong with that.

I doubt he'd be called that, since paychecks and assistance programs, as said before, aren't mutually exclusive.

I expect he'd be the Breakfast at Tiffany's President.

If that means that Newt pockets money from the highest bidder and gets paid, then the "paycheck" president might fit.
