Due to the current awards season, I was thinking about Roseanne and her several Emmy nominations. I know she won Best Actress in a Comedy Series once, and was nominated three other times. So my question is this: What episodes did she submit for Emmy voters, and which one finally won her the prize?
Oh, and the same goes for Laurie Metcalf and her triple victory.
Roseanne won an Emmy in 1993 for an episode in which she recalls how she was sexually abused as a child.
I believe Roseanne won for the "Becky Gets Pregnant" episode, though I could easily be mistaken. As for the brilliant and underused Metcalf, I would imagine she won for the episode where her bf Fisher beat her up, or for her hilarious turns in the pot-smoking episode or the drunken Superbowl party episode. Just a guess...

Laurie was sensational on Roseanne! She deserved all three of those Emmys. And no, Sara Gilbert never won. She was nominated though.
Sara was nominated, but i believe she lost to Laurie.

Yep.
And what's this about an episode dealing with sexual abuse? I've seen every episode many, many times and I do not recall that one. Is it not included in the syndication? Or are you referring to the episode in which she physically abuses DJ for wrecking the car?
The show received four acting awards during its run and as mentioned before three went to Metcalf and one went to Roseanne.
It may be the one where she and Jackie go to their old house before it's demolished and Roseanne has the line about the spot where her dad used to hang the belt.

I don't remember that episode, either.
In its prime, Roseanne was a great comedy. The show went on way too long, though. The lottery storyline was ridiculous!

The "old house" epi was later in the run, cause Ro had the straight hair with the bangs and had ALOT of face work done.
The episode that Roseanne won for was called "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home."

The episode where they visit their old house, entitled "This Old House," is from the fourth season.
And "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home" is from Season Five.
In each of the four years from 1992 - 1995 Metcalf was nominated for two episodes*.
She won for the following episodes:
1992 - Kansas City, Here We Come (*Why Jackie Becomes a Trucker)
1993 - Wait Till Your Father Gets Home (*Crime and Punishment)
1994 - Past Imperfect (*Labor Day)
Roseanne was nominated four times 1992-1995
Goodman was nominated 7 times 1989 - 1995
Gilbert was nominated in 1993 and 1994 both times for two episodes.

Oh, she was fantastic in that episode. As was Metcalf.
And I just found that Metcalf won one of three Emmys for the episode entitled "Why Jackie Becomes a Trucker" from the fourth season. This is the episode where she wakes up to find that she has slept with Arnie and goes into a deep, hysterical depression.
One of my favorite Jackie episodes was the one when her dad dies. Both the phone conversation with the deaf aunt -- "Auntie Barbara, I have some sad news. Dad is no longer with us. Dad has passed away. He's passed away! Dad is dead. Dead! DEAD! He's fine. He sends his love." -- and the scene with the funeral director are evergreen moments.

I'm surprised Laurie Metcalf was nominated that late in the show's run. By then she had almost fully morphed her character into that of Barney Fife.

We still haven't found out what episodes Roseanne was nominated for. Other than the one that she won for, obviously. I can't find it online.
Roseanne's Nominations:
1992 - A Bitter Pill to Swallow
1993 - Wait Till Your Father Gets Home (Winner)
1994 - The Driver's Seat
1995 - Thanksgiving '94

I think she won for the episode where her father dies and she's saying goodbye to him and she tells him she'll neevr forgive him for molesting ehr.
I think Gilbert won in 92, didn't she?
Caseywouldwaltz, just read the thread and your questions will be answered.
I was unaware that people were nominated for specific episodes. All this time I thought they were being judged on their body of work the previous season. I can't believe Roseanne only won once; not only that, but it took her until the show had been on the air for almost 4 years to be finally nominated. It perplexes me that Candace Bergen won several times (competing against Roseanne) for a mediocre (IMO) show. It just goes to prove that these shows are political. Not that I'm surprised.
