"I loved the New York power outage! I found it incredibly invigorating, spiritual and practical at the same time: we all had to pay attention to each other! Not to mention that Manhattan in total darkness was oddly enough a beautiful sight to behold."
Not to mention that people were trapped in the subway and people were frightened it was a terrorist attack.

I don't know about all that, Goth...sure people got trapped for hours, but the vast majority of us were so happy it was just an outage that we all had a party! Pizza joints were buzzing, people were drinking and barbecuing on the sidewalks and their courtyards, bodegas were giving away ice cream...I walked down and hung out on 14th with some hot gays and then walked all the way back up to 80th and Amsterdam.

I think he's trying to deflect attention to the minor sin of pollution from the major sin of his homosexuality.
How dare he try to make the most out of a bad situation!
He should cursed the darkness.

I'm sure he went surf boarding in New Orleans during Katrina.

Was he in New Orleans for Katrina? Was he in New York for the explicit purpose of exploiting the blackout? If the answer to either of these questions is "no" then I don't follow.
No, but he might have gotten to see the Astrodome!
