I dont think Dreamgirls is a lock at this point for a Best Picture nomination. It just lost out on a British Academy award nomination for Best Picture and I think some people are underestimating United 93. Out here in the LA area, I'm hearing many radio advertisements for it, claiming that its the best reviewed picture of the year and its even been called the Best Picture "of the last decade." I wouldnt be surprised the noms will be:
United 93
The Departed
Babel
Flags of Our Father
The Queen
Dreamgirls surely might replace either Flags or The Queen, but I dont think it has a lock on a Best Picture nomination at this time. Little Miss Sunshine might sneek in as well.

Just an update for those who are interested in the SAG Awards...
Apparently Hinton Battle and Sharon Leal ARE nominated along with the rest of the principle cast for Dreamgirls, after all.
The official website (link at the top of this thread) now has them listed with the others for Best Ensemble. Initially, they were not included with the other recognized names, which I thought was a crime.
Looks like it was an oversight, and it's been corrected.
ooh! Thanks, that's good to hear...I mean, not including them would have been really shady, I'm glad it's corrected.
It seems like Hollywood likes musicals. Dreamgirls is as good a musical as any to honor, especially seeing how the last three more or less flopped critically. Of the movies that seem "in contention," I think Dreamgirls probably has the most to benefit financially and in terms of influence.
That said, I'm pissed SAG didn't recognize Lost on the TV side - I'm so sick of everyone deriding the show because they haven't answered questions yet - it's like a Dickens book - you have to wait till the end for the reveals and enjoy the ride as you go!
