If you were to write to someone and wanted to get something sent back to you (headshot, photo, Playbill, etc.), it usually says to send a self-adressed stamped envelope. So I understand what that is and all, but my question is(here's where I'm probably gonna sound very stupid...): How you go about actually sending everything. I mean, if you were writing a fan letter or something that would fit in a regular 4 x 9in. envelope, would you just fold a bigger envelope in half and stuff it in with the letter so that you can have something sent back to you(if you can even do that??), or would you just send the letter in a bigger envelope so that you could more easily send the SASE inside?
Again, I feel pretty stupid asking this, but I've never really done this before. Hope I made sense, ha. Thanks for reading!
Well, most photos are 8x10 that are sent, so it's a good idea to use two 9 1/2 x 11 envelopes. What you do is you write your address on one, stamp it, fold it in half. Then take the other envelope, address it to whomever you're sending, and put your SASE folded in half inside of it, along with your letter, and ta da.

I do it a different way but the same thing gets done.
I don't like to fold the envelope because then when the actor puts the picture in, it will more likely get bent. A 9X11 envelope WILL fit in another 9X11 envelope. It will fit in neatly if you kinda...wiggle it in.
Also, in the envelope that you are getting sent back to you, you can put in a thin piece of cardboard to prevent the envelope being bent while going through the mail.
brwybound- It depends who you are writing to. Usually you write to people who you've seen perform. Tell them how much you enjoyed their performance. Impact it had on you? Have you seen them in anything else? Maybe send a small picture of you and them (if you have.) Just a short note. Then ask them if they would mind sending you a signed headshot to hang up on your "Broadway Wall"...or something like that.
I don't send CD inserts or stuff like that just in case they don't send it back. If you want a playbill signed and they are willing to do it- they can easily get one and you shouldn't need to send yours (especially if you only have only 1.)
Obviously, don't dig too deep, they are going out of their way to do it for you.
