SHALL WE DANCE?

What a delightful film. I remember skipping it in theatres because the trailer wasn't at all appealing.

I'm pleasantly surprised. Richard Gere is lovely. And J-Lo's lines were minimal, that's always a plus. SHALL WE DANCE? Honestly, she's not too bad an actress.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I agree, the movie was indeed a feel good movie. Corny as hell but I loved it

Skip the dreadful Hollywood version and pick up the delightful Japanese film that it is based upon.

I agree. Even though (surprisingly...sorry, I don't fancy J-Lo) the hollywood version was good and Stanley Tucci was ...just wonderful, I loved the Japanese version better. Much, much better. The subtleness of the feelings is just so elegant.
The Director's "Sumo Do, Sumo Don't" is also wonderful...hope they will release USA version.

Also, if you liked the Japanese version, see "That's the way I like it (a.k.a. Forever Fever)" It is "Saturday Night Fever" in Singapore. Very lovely piece!!

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie..... I played it 'on demand' on my IO digital cable.... Glad I skipped it in theatres -- I wouldnt have been too happy to pay 10 bucks for it -- but I did enjoy it nonetheless. The story line went quite differently than I expected it to, though.

Another vote for the Japanese version. Even though Stanley Tucci has an open invitation to use my god as his Charmin.

re: SHALL WE DANCE?

I loved this movie. It had three of my favorite actors in it: Sarandon, Gere and López.
I've seen the Japanese version and it was good as well.
The supporting cast was good as well. It was nice to see Anita Gillette.
