I was thinking how perfect Alec Baldwin would be as Tom Buchanan in the stage adaptation of "Gatsby!" that is the most likely focus of the third season of SMASH. However, if Alec's current Broadway show extends, would that put the kibosh on his participation in SMASH or would the show's next producer accommodate it? Thoughts?

Do you mean Ivy or Daisy? Megan would be such a great Daisy because Daisy would have a strong belt. But that would only be if "Gatsby!" is the musical the exclamation point implies. If it's a play then I think Julia would be a great Daisy.

Is Baldwin playing himself or is he playing an actor playing Tom? Because if he's not playing himself, I hope his character is gay and has some shirtless scenes with another man.

Maybe with Christian Borle, a sort of grief boink?

Maybe Alec could play a heightened version of himself with something extra. A superpower or a food allergy.
Like a nut allergy or a gluten thing? Or maybe he's lactose intolerant? These would be determining factors to my watching next season.
Now that I'm thinking about it, I think Tom should write "LONGTIME COMPANION!" because each time I watch it, I just know there's a musical ala HAIRSPRAY that's dying to come out.
Or maybe he's lactose intolerant?
But he loves cheese. So, he eats it and then screams "LACTOSE INTOLERANCE" ala Meg Ryan in French Kiss before running off

I hope the new producers are reading this. It's great!
And you're right about Longtime Companion screaming for musicalization. I'm picturing the "Dreambears" number even as I type.
If also like to see Karen as Guinevere Turner in "GO FISH!: THE MUSICAL"

Oh my god, her acting style is perfect for that!
I feel like she's been auditioning for it since day 1.

"Maybe with Christian Borle, a sort of grief boink?"
Or a threesome with Tom and Ghost Kyle!
Throw Wesley Taylor in being a voyeur and stroking his hairless chest and you've got yourself a number!

I hope Wesley has more to do next season. This season was lacking in that department!

He taught us a lot though. If you don't have a line, execute the perfect eye roll.
