Hey Everyone!
Ugh, still trying to figure out this whole college thing!! Theres soo many schools that I'm looking at but not many are SUNY. My mom's really pushing for a SUNY school but I'm not sure which ones have decent prgrams. I don't really want to go to SUNY Ferdonia, so other then that are there any other one worth looking into?? Oh, and I want my Major to be MT, so they have to offer and MT Major. I don't want to have to major in theatre and minor in MT.. Thanks in advance!!

They have ok programs. Fredoina, U BUffalo, and Cortland.
they are all SUNY's. I know people that have left fredonia's and buffalo's programs.

I went to UB (SUNY University at Buffalo, not Buff State) and graduated with a BFA in musical theatre. I received wonderful training there, the faculty and all the productions there are top notch. The program is also very small, with only about 40 or so official MT majors so your teachers get to know you very well and there's a lot of opportunities to perform. The facilities are also gorgeous. The program was a great fit for me personally, not to mention how much opportunity you'd have working in and around the thriving Buffalo theatre community.
The only downfall is that it is very removed from NYC and I don't feel like I was adequaely prepared to enter such a rigorous and competitive audition environment. That being said, there's been major changes to the program since I left, and from what I hear they've been for the better. But I wouldn't trade those four years for anything, I am so grateful; for the amazing training (specifically in dance and acting) I received there. Not to mention the reasonable tuition allowed me to graduate without debt and use my savings to get set up in the city.
That's my two cents, feel free to PM me for specifics in case you're interested.
ps- I auditioned/applied at the four SUNY schools that listed MT as a major in 2003: UB (accepted immediately), Fredonia (was accepted but hated their campus, hated the people), Cortland (was accepted on the spot but thought the program was just too new) and Geneseo (also accepted on the spot but would've gone mad at such a tiny school)
Good luck on the college search!
