I wish they did that when I was in 5th/6th grade

I'm kind of frightened... They're like automatons.
Granted, I didn't finish the whole video, but still...

I use power teaching with my second graders. It's an interesting and effective management system and has actually really helped my kids academically, particularly with vocabulary. There are some amazing youtube videos from kindergarten to college using power teaching. It takes a lot of energy, but I like it!
Adding to respond to the post above: it is and it isn't. My kids think it's a hysterical game, and by no means are they automatons in doing it. There are certain verbal cues and they are fantastic on picking up on them. There are also high moments of power teaching and moments when it's more in "off" mode (when they're working, etc.)
I would have loathed being taught like this.
If you're going to make a big point of teaching to the "partners", why would you have your classroom set up so the seats are in sets of 3 and there's always one odd kid out talking to someone's back?
That pisses me off.
I would kill myself.
As either student OR teacher.
Interesting---
In my district the trend is away from direct instruction....and this example was nearly 100% direct instruction.
It also bothered me because this was far from "meaningful or substantitve discussion". It was more like they were talking AT not TO their partner.
Yes, the class was under control, and I'm all for adding motions to help aid learning, this just seemed a little too "drill and repeat" for me.
Of course, this was based on a few minute clip, and you can only get so much from that.....
Is this done all the time? If so, it probably contributes to truancy. "I just couldn't take it anymore, Mr./Ms. Principal..."
