Posted: 11/5/04 at 7:01pmI know she was also very popular with the cast of the 20th Anniversary National Tour of that show. Everyone loved her.

Struther's last film was the classic HOW TO GET THE MAN'S FOOT OUTTA YOUR ASS (2003).
She received 15th billing.

Posted: 11/5/04 at 7:08pmYes, Carter did it on Broadway in the 20 Anniv. production. I saw her - she wasn't funny - she played Miss Hannigan as mean, with no humor whatsoever. And certainly did not enjoy Struthers-level popularity with the cast.

Not only was Struthers not the first choice for Gloria, she wasn't in the original pilot either. Gloria was played by Candace Azzara, who will be familiar to couch potatoes for numerous sitcom guest roles in the 70's and 80's. More recently, she was the mother of Annie, the best friend on CAROLINE IN THE CITY, and this past year, she was "Housewife God" on JOAN OF ARCADIA.
Struthers is currently a hoot as "Babette" on GILMORE GIRLS.
