Toothless, all of it. And sadly unfunny.
I liked the Will Forte Bush. Buthe Katrina stuff was about the usual (recent) SNL target: celebrity. Really, the new kid doing Pacino (not bad, the voice) and Amy doing Sharon Stone? Ho hum. Is that what the Katrina crisis was about, comedically? Celebrities showing up? Why put down Anderson Cooper, when we have FEMA's Prof. Marvel Michael Brown to take on? Anderson Cooper would've been worthy satirizing had they found something in the man's character worth exploring. Instead, they merely used his presence, and (yawn) made it all about his ego.
As someone said, it would've beeen fine if it had been funny. But you could feel the level of strain, the effort to simply find the humorous lightnight rod, to locate the comedic core. Alas, they did not come close, and the results felt borderline tasteless.
Hey, I love tastless when I laugh. But watching the women flash in the flood water -- that's just lowest common denominator stuff, the easy way out (more JACKASS than SNL), and not worthy of a show that used to take the temperature of the culture, and send it up with blistering honesty. No matter what one says about Katrina, it certainly wasn't all about Anderson Cooper's ego and women flashing their t-ts in the water. Ick.

Posted: 10/3/05 at 2:24amSeth Meyers was in charge of writing? WTF?! And is it just me, or do these two new guys look like Jimmy Fallon clones? Are they trying to nab the 12-18 Girl demographic by putting pretty boys on? I just hope they're funny. I'm starting to get the feeling that Lorne doesn't really care anymore.....

Posted: 10/3/05 at 5:09pmThat new kid Bill Hader is cute. As painful as it is to watch SNL I'm going to have to just to see him in action.

Posted: 10/3/05 at 9:32pmwith that track jacket on Bill Hadar though... CJ you're sooo right.... they're just trying to replace Jimmy Fallon....which is impossible

Posted: 10/4/05 at 4:19pmwhy try and replace someone who, in my mind, sucked. Jimmy Fallon never really solidified himself as a solid performer. Sure, breaking on camera can be funny, but EVERY skit, EVERY joke? If he and Horatio Sanz were within 10 feet of each other, they began to laugh, leaving me to wonder just what was so funny. it's just unprofessional to me.
