I'll go with you. I don't want to go alone, either!
Ok - when you get to New York, let's go... and then plan on staying for a while...
It's a deal. But instead of going back to your place you can come to mine and help me unpack.
oh, goody...
Although, after a scarey movie having something to do might be the best thing.
That, or drinking.
Can I come too?

I hate scary movies, but Im somehow compelled to see this one... Addy, I understand -- I'm not seeing it alone either... I'm making a friend of mine go with me so I can hide behind him the whole time! haha
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
Just bumping this as a friend in LA just emailed me to tell me she thought Saw was a pile of SH*TE. Anyone else care to tell her how wrong she is?
I have to wait for Matt_G to come to NY to see it... can't go alone.
But, that's not how I've heard others describe it...
No offence, Addy, but are you still here?
Just bumping this again as I am so curious to know what other people think of this movie. Come on, you can tell us, don't be scared.
The critics, if imdb.com are any indication, tend to agree with your friend.
Horror movies ALWAYS get slammed by the critics though. Always. So I base no faith in their reviews when it comes to that genre (or any genre, for that matter, but that's by the by). And this is why I want to know what other people who aren't critics thought of the movie.

Horror movies aren't always slammed- just often. And that's because they're often formulaic, and I imagine nothing's more annoying to someone who watches craploads of movies every year than formula. Or, you know, yet another attempt to shock with sadism and nastiness. Updated On: 10/31/04 at 11:04 AM
I saw Saw today. (That sounds funny). It was good, not the best horror flick I have seen but it was better than the Grudge. Ebert and Roeper hated it. Nothing was a good as Seven!!!!!!!
Yet another bump for this. Did NOBODY see this movie?
I saw it over the weekend and while I enjoyed it, I left the theater disappointed (sorry Pop). What was set up as a great premise kinda fizzled out toward the end. And Cary Elwes was just....horrible!! During what should have been the scariest part of the movie his performance, and really bad dialouge, had the audience I saw the movie with roaring with laughter.
Overall a decent B horror movie.
I "Saw" it this weekend, and I found it more unpleasant than scary...eh, okay, I guess...terrific premise, at least, which they didn't follow through on. It took itself a little too seriously and the best horror movies I've seen have all had a sense of icky fun. And that acting! Ouch! Poor, poor Danny Glover! Went home and watched SUSPIRIA again on the 25th anniversary DVD...now THAT'S a horror movie!
By the time the bad acting should have bothered me, I was too busy trying to climb over my seat with my coat over my head to really pay that much attention.
SUSPIRIA, being an Italian horror flick, needs some patience. It's frequently silly and illogical, perhaps even incomprehensible, and the dialogue sounds like it was--well, badly translated from Italian...but the scary bits are great, and the score is sooo weird (bouzoukis, chants, howls, and metallic percussion), and all those incredible sets drenched in primary colors. Dario Argento has said that he thought SNOW WHITE is one of the scariest films ever made, and on the DVD, he talks about how he used the then-done-with Technicolor to get the crazy color effects, like the colors in SNOW WHITE. It has a definite fairy tale feel, with the almost entirely female cast, and Jessica Harper was cast because Argento thought she would make a great Snow White (she would). Another interesting bit: he initially conceived the script as the cast being all children--little girls 9 or 10 years old. Good Lord!!

That description isn't limited JUST to Suspiria now, is it?
OK so here is my SAW review. Went last night, ohhhh halloween ohhhhh, whatever. All I can say is, Biggest Letdown Of THE YEAR, movie wise. I fully admit that I wasted my money on Alien Vs. Predator and Exorcist The Begining, but I didn't expect those to be that good and they weren't. I am a frequent visitor to Ain't It Cool News. And for almost a year now they have been promoting this thing as The Next Big Name in Horror Movies. Well it's not folks. Now I admit I am not easy to scare, the only movie that has truly terrified me and does to this day is the original Exorcist. Silence of the Lambs didn't scare me persay but kept me gripped and Buffalo Bob was just horrific. The realism in Silence I think is what got me. Also the new Texas Chainsaw gave me the creeps as I was driving home because while at school I rented a house that was Huge and old and only had 2 of us living in a 2 story 6 bedroom house, that and I had to drive through the woods to get to it. Anyways....... With all this in mind and hearing the reviews that SAW was just as good if not better than Silence and Se7en (another amazing movie). I was more than pumped to see it.
The film itself was written poorly. The very contrived plot setup lines like "How did you get here?" "What do you remember?" "What do you do?" were false and delivered falsly. Now at first I thought maybe the acting was poor in a comment on how poor the script was and the actors were just trying to get this contrived piece of crap across. The I decided it was true for 90% of the cast but not Cary Elwes. There is a reason Elwes has not gotten any bigger than he is today. He is awful. His lines that were supposed to be fueled by anger were so laughable that the entire theatre was laughing anytime he tried to threaten anyone. Also he has let himself go and I'll be damned if his weight didn't get in his way.
That brings me to another problem, The Script was just plain bad. Laughs in all the wrong places and a set up so contrived I didn't believe who they were trying to get across as the killer for one moment. (but I'll stop there before I give anything away.)
I guess thats it, if anyone wants more info just post and I'll respond. The movie doesn't really get good untill the last 20 minutes and that is it's saving grace. The last 20 minutes was the only reason I didn't seek getting my money back and the reason I semi enjoyed this movie. But overall, giant dissapointment.

Well, that's what you get for listening to Ain't It Cool. :)
Just kidding. They have interesting scoops sometimes, but you really need to take their movie opinions with about 50 grains of salt. Especially the semi-literate baboons known as the Talkbackers.
It seems like every year there is a BIG horror movie that everybody buzzes is going to revive the genre...remember all the squawking last year over CABIN FEVER? Now, SAW wasn't as crappy as that flick but...
Cabin Fever and My Little Eye were both lauded by critics (at least in the UK) and they were both rubbish. I don't get it.
