Scarlett Johansson...for BWW's pleasure
re: Scarlett Johansson...for BWW's pleasure#25
Posted: 6/28/05 at 8:57amI love her. Have done since Ghost World and Eight Legged Freaks. She was glorious in Lost In Translation, the most beautifully natural and understated performance I've seen in ages. Sadly I wasn't enamoured with Girl With A Pearl Earring, but that wasn't her fault.

Wait, has she done theatre?
If not, I don't care

She auditioned for the revival of Woolf that's currently at the Longacre but didn't get the role. POssibly because her voice is deeper than Kathleen Turner's
.

I think she's very talented. She was great in "Ghost World", "The Horse Whisperer", "Girl with a Pearl Earring" (IMHO, her best), "A Love Song for Bobby Long", and "Lost in Translation".
I think that some people don't like her because her work, like (for example) Keir Dullea, is so subtle that it might go over their heads.

Is she still "in talks" to do The Sound of Music in London, or was that just a rumor?
Also, there was a rumor a while back that the producers wanted her for the revival of The Glass Menagerie, but that Leveaux flat out refused to audition her.

Possibly he spoke to the auditioning panel of Virginia Woolf.....

Scarlett is now filming another Woody Allen movie which started June 27 - co-starring Hugh Jackman and Ian McShane - oh, and Woody.

I don't like her AT ALL. Her deep voice irritates me, her inflection irritates me, and I think she's a totally overrated actress. In all of the recent movies I've seen her in, she BARELY talks. She's just there, floating around the movie. She NEVER talks in her movies!
For example:
Lost in Translation - she had about what - 7 lines? She was completely forgettable and disposable.
Girl with a Pearl Earring - I think she spoke maybe 3 times. The rest were just gasps and grunts.
In Good Company - More dialogue this time, but still barely speaking.
What is it with her and not speaking????

Posted: 6/28/05 at 12:20pmI think she's a talented actress and she gives memorable performances even when she isn't given many lines. There's more to acting than speaking.
