"The original film was gritty and entertaining; the new version is a masterpiece - the best effort Scorsese has brought to the screen since Goodfellas (ending a decade-long drought of disappointments and near-misses)."

"There are people who dismiss Martin Scorsese’s non-gangster films. Sometimes it feels like they don’t even acknowledge the existence of movies like or Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore or The Last Temptation of Christ or The Age of Innocence. These people are going to be more entrenched in their beliefs after the release of The Departed, Scorsese’s balls to the wall return to the world of crime. As much as I appreciate the films he has made over the last decade, there is no denying that The Departed is Scorsese’s best film since Goodfellas. It’s just a ****ing awesome movie."

The trailer is making me cry. *drools*
The filmed for a couple of days at a bar around the corner from me in Brooklyn
I remember that filming up in Boston. I've got a couple pictures from the set.
I just can't get interested in this film. Leo again? Seriously?
I think Leo's his muse, just like Depp is Burton's?
Can't wait to see it! I hear that Nicholson is on the shortlist for Supporting Actor. DiCaprio gave his best performance in The Aviator, so it'll be great to see him pair up with Scorsese again.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago. I LOVED it!
It's profane, it's violent, and in a bonus, it's frequently funny. Laughed at virtually everything out of Alec Baldwin and Mark Wahlberg's mouths. Some of it black humor from Jack.
Accents all over the place, but I didn't care.
Leo, Matt and Jack were definite standouts for me.
I think I'll have to see it again.

This film is sensational! I just got back from seeing it. Scorsese's best picture since the 90's.
Just back...
This is a GREAT movie. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and the 2.5 hours flew by. Great performances all around- Leo, Matt, and Jack are in top form. Mark Wahlberg steals scenes, and Alec Baldwin and Martin Sheen are great too.
I want to go see this again.
Will they finally correct one of Oscar's worst injustices (the 3-6 Mafia has more Oscars than Scorsese does) this year?
Just wanted to echo everyone else's sentiments.
Just a terrific movie all around.
Funny, suspensful, superb acting and thrillingly entertaining.
The best I've seen in quite some time.
Nicholson, DiCaprio and Damon were all fantastic.
Wahlberg and Baldwin were effing hysterical.

Saw it yesterday and it was as good as I imagined it would be. I can totally see Leo walking away with an Oscar for this.
Mark Wahlberg definitely stole the show, though--funny as hell.

Seeing it wednesday. w00t.
This is one of my favorite movies in recent memory! I was so engrossed! One of the smartest, most entertaining thrillers I've seen in ages.
It's exceedingly well written, acted, and directed. If the Academy were ever to give Scorcese an Oscar finally, this would be the one to do it for. Gangs of NY and The Aviator weren't the ones to do it for. This movie is classic Scorcese. This movie reminds us why he is a great director.
Best film of the year so far.
It didn't *quite* live up to some of the reviews for me - one two many endings for me - but otherwise I liked it a lot.
One of the best movies I've seen this year. Vibrant, uncompromising, and surprising in a way that I have n't seen in a long time. Beautifully acted by all, especially DiCaprio and Nicholson.
Oh, and I'll second (or third) the praise for Mark Wahlberg who stole the film.
And Scorsesi already has Leo lined up for his next film, The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt. I mean, come on! What, is he jealous of the Spielberg/Hanks love-fest? I can live without seeing DiCaprio or Hanks star in another film for at least five years.
Oh, and I'll second (or third) the praise for Mark Wahlberg who stole the film.
Yeah, Wahlberg and Baldwin were hilarious.

Okay, I've finally seen the film.
I walked out of the movie in a state of rapture I haven't felt in years. What an amazing film. Scorsese is a ****ing genius. Here's to hoping he finally gets an Oscar for this film, which is possibly his very very best since GOODFELLAS.
I think what I most admired about it was how well Scorsese shoots violence. (Pun intended) You feel just about every bullet and the moment (SPOILER WARNING) in the elevator shaft caused the entire audience to jump collectively. THIS is ****ing cinema. THIS is ****ing moviemaking, man...
It's the cinematic equivalent of realizing that you have two extra boxes of thumbtacks when you thought you were out of them. Wow...
(SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!)
You feel just about every bullet and the moment (SPOILER WARNING) in the elevator shaft caused the entire audience to jump collectively.
Same here. For five minutes after, the audience (and myself) still couldn't believe it. It wasn't only the shot that jolted them, but the fact that the leading man got it. With no buildup, whatsoever.
Orgasmic.

It's the kind of movie that you have to be alone for about fifty-sixty minutes after seeing...
