You have GOT to be kidding me. Am I missing something here? Maybe it would be more compassionate to the victim's families to see this guy die in prison.

Posted: 8/20/09 at 8:56amI third that, dan. I'm a more compassionate person than most, but this man deserves none.

Posted: 8/20/09 at 9:03amI dont understand this at all...just like Susan Atkins, it's a lifetime sentence! You're dying? Do it in prison where you belong!!

Posted: 8/20/09 at 9:17amSo my question is, if this guy is released and on his death bed plans another attack and it is executed successfully, can the judge who released him be brought up on charges? How is this any different than Susan Atkins who also has cancer and wants to die outside of prison walls? Compassionate grounds I thought was sparing his life and spending his remaining days in jail. I have a feeling we will be hearing more about the judge in this case then the criminal who gets to go free. How long before all criminals expect the same treatment?

I don't get why he's been shown mercy and kindness when he clearly failed to show it to the hundreds of innocent people he killed.
How can they be sure he won't attempt to do it again? He has **** all to lose.

I'm pretty sure all the people on the plane would have chosen to die elsewhere as well.
He should rot where he is.

"The Megrahi case had become a millstone for the Scottish government as it balances a series of competing interests, among them the fact that British oil companies are trying to do more business in Libya and hope Megrahi's release might open doors."
And there you have it. Unfortunately. It's always about oil.

If that's true,Why doesn't Scotland just invade Libya and claim they are there to liberate the people or claim they have WMD's? I hear these excuses work very well.

Posted: 8/20/09 at 10:35amEnd result: he spent 11 days of his prison sentence for each death he caused, and he's going to be allowed to have a more "compassionate" death than his victims.

I join all of you in feeling that this was wrong.
He is a criminal who showed no compassion for his victims.
I feel so sorry for the families of those who were murdered, who must be feeling the loss all over again.

As long as George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Condoleeza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and Colin Powell are running around free, we are in no position to complain about mass murderers being let off the hook.

"How long before all criminals expect the same treatment?"
They already do. This follows another case a couple of weeks ago where a notorious, self-publicising, British mobster was released on compassionate grounds to die outside prison.
There has long been a feeling that British justice favours the criminal rather than the victim but the ineffectual and self-serving British establishment continue to show contempt for the electorate by ignoring such issues.

And just to add injury to insult, he arrived in Libya to a hero's welcome. A HERO'S welcome!
How comforting for his victims' families.

It was one judge, PJ. I saw him on CNN today. He said even though what he did was horrible, he deserved compassion since he was dying.
I don't know how that guy sleeps at night. (the judge, OR the bomber)

He already got compassion: he wasn't blown out of the sky as punishment for what he did to all those innocent people.
