Sidebar conversation: I went to a reading of Mark Doty's years ago and just fell in love. He made me wish I had the ability to write more lyrically with the grace of a Canadian goose flying into the metal-like clear asphalt sky clank-free. (Ugh-see?)
Coincidentally, I just picked up his Dog Years: A Memoir (have no idea who the publisher is, nyuk nyuk) for my February warm weather get-away two nights ago. I feel bad he's been drawn into the Reichen threats in Seattle.

I was at the National Book Awards the night he won. I haven't been as happy about anyone winning an award since Patti LuPone won the Tony.
The awarded were just after the election. Many of the speakers talked about their excitement for the results of the election.
In his gracious acceptance speech Mark Doty thanked his husband, Paul Lisicky, and spoke movingly of their recent marriage, in a salt-marsh in Truro, Massachusetts, two weeks before the election:

The The Great Ricin Rebellion of 2009 is on.
