If you are serious about liking cheeze's idea, I suggest you sell the tickets on eBay. I sold one pair of tickets to Wicked in DC for $800!
That way, you don't have to go to the theatre at all. Save time and make money! Then do something you REALLY want to do.

A bit excessive for tickets but why does that not surprise me for tickets to an overrated show

I actually thought about buying some tickets to WICKED for selling since the previous LA stop was insane on eBay.
However, I thought that since this is a sit down there may be less "THIS IS THE HOT THING. GO SEE IT NOW!" demand and didn't want to be stuck with Wicked tickets.

You could tell your friend you are not going to the concert because you don't want to, so does he want to find someone else to go see Wicked with him or does he want to go straight home after Wicked and skip the concert? You're not up for the whole package.
Let him figure out the solution. He screwed up; don't buy into a guilt trip for someone else's "error."
