My high school did it. It was the most fun I've had in a musical. I had a great part (I was the Cat in the Hat) and we had an amazing cast. Plus, it was the first time we had ever sold out a musical before. I think the reason why people love doing it is the fact that it has commercial musical down to a science. Everyone knows Dr.Seuss and everyone seems to love it. It's sentimental, fun, and just a sweet story. Plus, you don't have to have a ton of money to put on a great show of it... you just need a lot of imagination! :)
