"BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Shelley Winters, the forceful, outspoken star who graduated from blond bombshell parts to dramas, winning Academy Awards as supporting actress in "The Diary of Anne Frank" and "A Patch of Blue," has died. She was 85."
A very, very sad day.
Shelley Winters has died
My jaw just hit the floor, and my heart sank.
What an amazingly talented, "original" lady.
Oh NO!!!!
This is so upsetting...
RIP, Nana Mary.
I know. I just got up, logged on and that was the news that greeted me.
She went from from being beautiful to being grotesque, from comedy to serious drama, from Pulitzer Prize winners to the Poseidon Adventure.
She was classy, even when she was trashy.
And she was fun on ROSEANNE.
Very sad to hear of her passing. She was a great!

I'm still grieving Brendan Stryker. Now I have the passing of Mrs. Van Damm to mourn.
Will I be able to make it through the new year?
Oh, my god. I was just thinking about her this morning. A Place in the Sun was on TV. Such a great actress.
I'm still grieving Brendan Stryker.
What is this all about?
What a lady - her stories about her life were always amazing.
Rest In Peace

We all learned that Brendan Stryker died shortly after Christmas.
I adored Shelley Winters. What a loss. She was an amazing woman.
What a loss. I adored Ms. Winters as well.
What a wonderful lady. She was so good in "Diary of Anne Frank" (she really did have good legs!) and just so funny as Nana Mary.
RIP
Her film career was untouchable, but my first exposure to her was her divine work on "Roseanne".
I have to say, part of what makes "Pete's Dragon" such a joy for me is Miss Winters.
I'm going to watch that tonight in her honor.

Such sad news. A truly original, gutsy and impressive lady with a body of amazing work behind her. Condolenses to her friends and family.
I remember seeing her on "Here's Lucy" when I was little. It always stuck with me. And of course The Poseidon Adventure and Pete's Dragon. She was an amazing woman.

"Oh no" that was the first thing when I saw the title of the thread.
I am sad. She's one of the greats.

You see, Mr. Scott? In the water I'm a very skinny lady.
Breaks my heart. Every. Single. Time.
"Ya had a lotta guts, lady. A lotta guts."
I had the pleasure of hanging with Shelley in 1989. My friend Gus was in her acting clas and he had a small pool party one afternoon. There were 6 of us including her. We played trivial pursuit most of the afternoon. She was a hoot. About two years later we all got together again and went to the Ahmanson to see Tyne Daly in Gypsy . We went out for cocktails in West Hollywood afterwards. Loved her. Loved her work. May she rest in peace.
Thanks Dame for sharing your personal memories of Shelley. She was truly one of a kind!
I am listening to Minnies Boys right now.
Oh and eslgr8.. the new avatars are darling.
The Silver Spoon in West Hollywood will never be the same.
What a grand and glorious woman.
