I will give you Tucker, if you give me Anderson.
(not a fair trade, I know).

What a great article from the Washington Blade, and thanks for bringing it to my attention!
And shame on Anderson Cooper for deceiving his public and maybe even himself by maintaining that in acknowledging his sexual orientation he'd somehow be discussing his personal life. When someone say that they're gay, it tells you NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about their "personal life." It only gives you an important piece of information about who they are. Anderson Cooper, Shephard Smith, Sean Hayes, Jodie Foster, and countless others who refuse to say who they are play into the hands of homophobes by their silence. No matter how much they may do "behind the scenes" to help gay causes, their silence is detrimental to gay people everywhere. I do hope that in time they will make the decision to place the good of other gay people over their own self interest, because in the end their silence comes down to one thing: They're afraid that coming out will have a detrimental effect on their careers. I say WAY TO GO to Kevin Knaff for having the guts to write this absolutely accurate and necessary article, and shame on those who aid and abet homophobic hatemongers by their silence.

esl - who are they hurting in their silence? sure, they may not be role models but who says they have to be?!?
i don't think it is fair to out someone who YOU think should take on an agenda/platform/stance of YOUR choosing.
can you imagine someone outing you when you were 16 when you weren't reading to come out yourself?
i think the editorial is offensive and an example of yellow journalism at its best.

I think it's a personal decision to come out. I don't have any problem with the Jodie Fosters of the world who keep their private information to themselves.
It's the liars that get to me - the Rosie O'Donnells, etc. "I love Tommy Cruise...I am a single parent..." Those were lies. That is offensive to me. But to just not say anything - what's wrong with that? Why is it our business?

Oddly enough, Chris Crain, the publisher of the Blade is a staunch Republican and AGAINST outing.
Rumor has it that Chris had this writer write this piece on orders from the GOP to punish Shepard and Cooper for their anti-Bush Katrina coverage.
So I think it might turn out that this one can be blamed on the Republicans not the gay activists. See what comes out in the wash.

It is a strange, strange world we live in when telling the truth is someting one has to be afraid of.
If this article is indeed payback for both Smith and Cooper actually being reporters and telling the truth in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, well, then, shame on me for even starting this thread. Personally, I would think many Americans would find that the GOP's tactics much more troublesome than whether or not some guy on the news happens to be Gay.
But, it does follow the GOP's pattern. First there was Plamegate, now, there will be Outgate.
