Hey all,

I am going to be in NYC from Dec 5-7....I live in Canada so would like to shop til I drop, but ideally in stores that they don't have in Toronto...

Can anyone suggest any really cool places/areas besides Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor (pretty much all the department stores)??

Thanks in advance!

:)

L'Occitane en Provence has a great little store in Manhattan (or so I've heard).

I don't know if there are any stores in Toronto.

Do you have UniQlo in Canada?
If not, check it out in SoHo.

I guess I should have figured out that if you're not from Canada, how would you know what stores we have here versus US?? Not my smartest moment!

Anyways, thank you for the suggestions so far, and am open to everything anyone else has to suggest!

H & M sometimes carrys different merchandise in the US from Canada. Worth checking out.
I usually check out as many Daffy's as I can ( discount- affiliated w Winners) Century 21 is so so but their shoe dept is pretty good. There is a Sym's down there too but I usually never buy anything.
If you are looking beyond clothes and shoes I always have fun @ Fishes' Eddy- Housewares and recycled dinner ware plus their own new stuff.
I usta check out Target but last few times found only one sweater and it's too much of a schlep( tho there is a Marshall's there- I just never find anything good @ that branch)
My teenage niece LOVES the Strawberries shops- always buys a least a half dozen thops or skirts.

You might like The Limited shops- a Gap clone ( my opinion)
I do like Ann Taylor ( not avail in Canada) and the ANN Taylor Loft as well- a bit more working professional look.

I like to look in The New York Look but they never have anything in my size. If u are teeny they have nice ($$$) stuff.

34th St between 6th/7th Avenue is one solid block of store-age. Tons of good deals on clothes and shoes. The Filene's on 14th Street near Union Square not only is a great store, but it also has a great view of the Square.

Do you you have Anthropology? One of the most beautiful stores I've ever seen. I could own every single item they sell.

Anthropologie is not here-YET. I believe they are planning a Downtown Toronto store some thime in the new year and NO the economic downturn has not changed their plan. ( hey Crate and Barrel just opened a month ago @ Yorkdale Mall and they are doing gangbusters business.) Anthorpoligie also only fits to size 12 ( and a small 12) so I usually just get their tchockes.
Olive and Betty's has cute stuff too (again not to much my size but WHATever...)
I love the shirts @ Anne Fontaine but $$$$.Theynhave a wbsit so u can check out styles. Agnes B has more French stuff too.
Is the Paul Frank store still around on Mulberry?
I know people who love Pearl River Mart down on Canal but I've never found that much for me.

I know you mentioned Lord & Taylor already but I have to say that i have always done extremely well there- always having sales plus discount coupons usually in the weekend paper plus a fairly well edited selection of designer and other merch. I think I went there 5-6 times the last time I was in NY and got something each time.

My absolutely favorite New York store is Fishs Eddy. I could just spend hours there, looking at everything and trying to decide what to get. The best 'everyday' dishware, flatware, etc. you could ask for! They're at 889 Broadway at 19th St.
