Should Ads for Restaurants be allowed on Message Boards?

I see a trend with a couple of current threads that are soliciting posters to dine at the originator of the thread's friend's restaurant. Even going so far a offering coupons.
Is that permissible? Should it be?
I say "no." Message boards should be a haven from ads for restaurants (other than the ones paid for by the establishment on the side bar, or if someone posts a link in their signature to the "soup du jour").
What do you think?
p.s. There was offense taken to my choice of words, "soup du jour," and for that I have already apologized. How was I to know they don't serve soup in Sushi restaurants?

#5re: Should Ads for Restaurants be allowed on Message Boards?
Posted: 4/11/06 at 1:31amI find the threads tasteless, people pay good money to advertise on websites, it's sneaky and rotten.

People write to me all the time asking for good places to eat before the theater. PS I did tell everyone the owner is a friend of mine.
I adore his food. I was also giving BWW members the opportunity to get a freebie with any entree.
It is a win win for everyone. Just a note, I do not benefit, from this. I am trying to help a restaurant that has good food and the members of BWW can get a free wine from it.
Cheers to the snake pit.
PS For all the members who constantly write to me for restaurant advice this thread was for you.

in Corine2's defense there is often threads on "where should I stay and where should i eat" however if people simply look to the left under features thy would see both a HOTEL FINDER and a RESTAURANT GUIDE, just like the seacrh feature, USE IT!!

Sueleen, you had me at should ads.
And about a certain Times Square restaurant, when I've gone there I've been offered free saki without having to drop any names.

"soup du jour" ??
At sushi restaurants there is only one soup du jour - Miso

Posted: 4/11/06 at 8:40amAs long as it's been brought up - re the hotel and restaurant guides on the left, just how do I read the individual reviews? I still can't figure it out. All I see is some stars and I have no idea why those stars are there. I really don't consider those 'guides' to be much help without reading the actual reviews.
A click for life.

Posted: 4/11/06 at 8:54amThat's why I love the sushi place near my house. It's actually a Japanese/Chinese restaurant, so I can sub the Wonton for the Miso.

RobbO, doll, did you use the "N" word again?
Not that one. The one that rhymes with a Bostonian's pronunciation of "rambler."
