http://sev.prnewswire.com/film-motion-picture/20070619/NYTU18719062007-1.html

NEW YORK, June 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Due to the fantastic reaction SiCKO received at its premieres and pre-release screenings, the overwhelming demand from audiences who want to see the film, and the early reviews from critics, Michael Moore's highly anticipated and entertaining film SiCKO will open in New York City this Friday, June 22nd, one week earlier than originally planned. Sneak previews of SiCKO will be held around the country on the evening of Saturday, June 23rd (see list of cities below).

SiCKO will open exclusively at the AMC- Loews Lincoln Square Theater this Friday, June 22nd -- one week prior to its nationwide release on Friday, June 29th.

Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company said, "Last night's standing ovation at the N.Y. Premiere of SiCKO confirmed what we believed to be true since the film's launch in Cannes, which is that audiences love the movie. Ever since the film began generating tremendous word of mouth we have been contemplating opening SiCKO in one theater in NYC and sneaking the film in the top markets across the country and last night validated that plan. Sneak previews for a strong movie like SiCKO are a great marketing tool."

SiCKO is written, directed and produced by Michael Moore. The film is produced by Meghan O'Hara and co-produced by Anne Moore. Kathleen Glynn, Bob Weinstein and Harvey Weinstein serve as executive producers.

ABOUT SiCKO

If you want to stay healthy in America, don't get sick. Following on the heels of his award winning hit "Fahrenheit 9/11" and his Oscar(R) winning film "Bowling for Columbine," acclaimed filmmaker Michael Moore's new documentary sets out to investigate the American healthcare system. Sticking to his tried-and-true one-man approach, Moore sheds light on the complicated medical affairs of individuals and local communities. "Sicko" promises to be every bit as indicting as Moore's previous films.

Yes, due to "fantastic" screening reactions NOT because it's widely available on the internet...

Meh, I'm still pretty excited for it.

The NY Daily News praised it & the Post panned it. Figure that one out

I read Harvey Weinstein tried to get a part about Hillary being the 2 nd largest recipient of money lavished on senators by the HMO's cut but he (Moore)left it in

Spoke to my doctor tonight in prepartion for my quaterly wire transfer for my bladder. He pays $ 50 K in malpractice insurance & just got hit with a 17 % increase because, in part, of 3 bills currently favoring trial lawyers in Albany. Since Sheldon Silver & the rest of the gang in Albany are in the hip pockets of trial lawyers, the HMO's are taking a premptive strike

He also said he is against socialized medicine & there should be the best of the current system plus new innovations .He is deathly afraid of the government administering it & said it would be much worse than it is now.

This is from someone who is affected by it. It was interesting what he said in our conversation. He touched on why gynecologists are bailing out in record numbers

I make no bones about the fact Moore is not on my christmas card list but I will see the movie somewhere down the road on free cable. There will probably be parts I agree with but Moore sometimes uses a sledgehammer where a small mallet will do. The HMO industry does need a documentary about it but not someone who has a forgone conclusion going in.

I've been told by someone that I trust that it's no "Fahrenheit 9/11" but that it was alright. I'll be able to judge for myself in a few days.

It was more than alright, it made me proud to live in a country with free health care. There was a very sad segment on first response rescuers... They went to Cuba and got diagnosed and what not. One ladys 120 dollar bi weekley puffer was only 5 cents in Cuba.

It was the Post that trashed it and the Daily News who raved about it by the way. I keep hearing its his best film yet. I am like you Pab, I'll see it a few days I hope. Love him or Hate him, Michael Moore is a very good filmmaker and he knows how to get people talking and how to draw attention! Movie Producers LOVE that about him!

When F911 came out Moore offered anyone to point out one mistake. He was never sued. He is making the same challenge with this. I think Moore and his legal team do their homework and then start over and do it again. You might be right Mr.Roxy.Once I see it I'll know for sure.

I have read about some glaring faults & downright lies in the movie

Could you provide examples, please? Or a link to something that lists the inaccuracies at least about the US healthcare system, if any. I wouldn't know anything about the other countries' system he talks about.

I've been in the healthcare industry for 15 years on both the clinical and business sides so I'm extremely curious about it. When I originally heard about this project, I thought it was to focus on mostly the pharmaceutical industry, where I worked for a time, but as the release date got closer I saw it was a much broader focus that I think is more useful overall and interesting to present.

F911 was kind of disappointing due to its meandering, unfocused nature. It was still a good movie, but not as good as BFC.

Sicko, however, looks quite awesome. Looks more TV Nation than anything else.

I watched about 2/3 of it the other night. Haven't had time to finish. That's why I'm curious where the inaccuracies are supposed to be that Roxy mentioned.
The one thing that really struck me so far, is that it should've been something presented in a series format (even like Spike Lee's Katrina docu) rather than trying to get so much info into a 2 hour film. It's very compelling, but much only scratches the surface.

One thing I really like about it, is that it's sure to encourage a lot of discussion. Hopefully about the topic at hand and not whether Michael Moore is a hack or not.

I have to apply for health insurance because my parents' insurance no longer covers me. This couldn't have come out at a better time for me; I put off applying long enough to see this movie. On the plus side, I'm leaving Kaiser. The downside is that's $150 a month that won't be going towards my "move to France" fund.

It's a sad day when Cuba (home of Lucifer) comes off as better than America and Al-Qaeda receives better treatment from the US government than the average citizen.

The one thing Moore doesn't really address is the way Socialized medicine is paid for, generaly with a value added tax. This is what most people here in the US have knee jerk reactions to. Higher taxes. HOWEVER if you have to pay $300-$400 a month for private insurance which ends up not covering very much of your hospital bill or general healthcare, or have NO health insurance what so ever, get sick and end up losing everything you have, which is the better solution?

This may be old news, but:

It turns out that Michael Moore wasn't so paranoid after all. The director of the Sicko lodged a pristine print of the film at a safe house in Canada on the off chance that the U.S. government might attempt to seize it. (Moore and several other Americans went to Cuba, which is illegal, while making the film.) Now, according to a press conference Moore gave on Tuesday, June 19th, and reported in Time magazine, Moore is indeed being investigated. "The Bush Administration sent me a certified letter ten days before the Cannes Film Festival that I was under investigation for criminal and civil penalties," Moore told Time. Regarding the print of Sicko that turned up on Bittorrent a week ago, Moore said that it was "not taken in a movie theater with a home video camera, the way it's usually done. This is an inside job. Now, if you were a police detective, what's the motive? Who has a vested interest in destroying the opening of the film? Of ruining the opening weekend box office?" Okay, maybe he's still paranoid. Except that Moore is not the only filmmaker whose new film's opening grosses are potentially compromised by leaks. Eli Roth's Hostel II found its way online two weeks before its opening on June 8, and went on to make only about $8 million its opening weekend. Whether piracy had anything to do with that low figure for a film opening up against Ocean's 13 and in a genre (torture horror) at the tail end of its public appeal is still open to debate. — D. K. Thank you Ken Blackwell:

Think of the hassles you face at the department of motor vehicles. Now picture dealing with those hassles when you take a child to the doctor: Take a number to wait in line for countless hours, or days, for the wrong test, or to correct a prescription for the wrong medicine. Stand in one line for x-rays, then another for medication.

At each stage the person you’re dealing with has to consult thick rulebooks written by bureaucrats hundreds of miles away. As mistakes are inevitably made, the nurse will be unable to get through to someone with the authority to fix the record or authorize the procedure.

Or worse, think of the absolute meltdown after Hurricane Katrina. Then consider dealing with that level of chaos at the hospital during an emergency. Imagine being in a dire condition and having a doctor at your side unable to get through to the right person to authorize what you need done, or finding out that you can only be treated at another hospital on the other side of town.

Government cannot overcome the laws of economics. All resources are limited. Supply and demand set price, quantity, and quality. When you promise something for free, you run out of supply as people consume resources regardless of need.

Also, the smaller an organization is, the better administrators are able to handle unusual or emergency situations. The opposite is true for government because it is immense.

God Bless Fred Thompson:

We're hearing those phrases again; national health care, universal health care, socialized medicine. We're being told that government bureaucrats can take over our entire medical industry -- which by the way is the best and most complex in the world -- and make it better.

It used to be a lot easier to make the case for nationalizing health care before we actually started looking at the countries that have it. A lot of people don't seem to have noticed but, in recent years, the grand experiments in bureaucratic medicine are coming apart at the seams.

Nearest home, it was the Canadian Health Care system that lost its luster. Despite paying nearly half their incomes in taxes, and as much as 40 percent of each tax dollar on health care, many Canadian experts have recognized that their health care system’s in a state of crisis. The problem has been, simply, not enough health care facilities to serve the population -- leading to long and sometimes fatal delays while waiting for treatments. Many Canadians have started coming to the US for treatments that they just can't get at home.

Now, top officials of the British National Health Service, often held out as an example of the kind of socialized medicine America should adopt, have acknowledged that they have similar problems. One in eight National Health Service hospital patients has to wait more than a year for treatment. Thirty percent wait more than 30 weeks.

Think about it. This is what we're supposed to copy? The poorest Americans are getting far better service than that. And there's nothing about Americans that would make us any better able to run a government health care bureaucracy than the Canadians or the British. In fact, we've got less practice at that sort of thing than they do -- and we might be a lot worse at it.

If Tom DeLay is The Hammer, then I proclaim a new title for the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi: The Briber. Nancy Pelosi had to bribe her members with spinach to get their votes.
