re: Single on Valentines Day?

I forgot it was V-day and everyone at school was wearing red so I obviously thought that the Bloods had taken over. I walked around school with my keys between my fingers just in case I needed to defend myself.

But there was a nice Valentine's Day episode of The Golden Girls. They were at a drug store trying to buy condoms. I love the Golden Girls.

re: Single on Valentines Day?

In the theatre department in my college, we refer to it as Single's Awareness Day (because no theatre majors have time for relationships... seriously, we have 30 majors and only 1 has a boyfriend).

One of our professors (who is also single) told us her colleagues were mocking our Singles Awareness Day, pointing out that the acronym was SAD.

But then I realized that the acronym for Valentine's Day is VD.

And I don't know about you, but I'd much rather be SAD than have VD.

Single all the way!

re: Single on Valentines Day?

V-day sucked, but reading this made me happy to be single. re: Single on Valentines Day?

"Within hours of being married, Valentine’s Day newlyweds Ronald and Elizabeth Schroeder traded their honeymoon for a pair of matching handcuffs and a trip to police headquarters.

So much for cupid and his arrows, the couple, still draped in tuxedo and gown, were slammed with charges of purposely causing and creating a risk of public inconvenience annoyance or alarm by engaging in violent and tumultuous behavior, according to police.

"Can you imagine what kind of day I had," said Ronald Schroeder, 21, a few hours after his 5 p.m. arrest."I had to watch two male police officer’s slamming my wife down... you can’t even imagine what’s going through my mind."

Hamilton Police Lt. Anthony Ricigliano said the couple was arrested after a lengthy "verbal sparring match" between police and amember of their wedding party on New Cedar Lane.

The incident escalated then climaxed with the bride and groom being strewn across the back of a police cruiser, handcuffed and driven off into the sunset by police, witnesses said.

The purported jabber-jaw who set the sweetheart’s day party ironically afoul by trading insults with the cops was the 17-year-old little brother of Ronald Schroeder, friends of the couple said.

According to Ricigliano, the juvenile -- later identified by family as Travis Schroeder -- refused to get out of the street for an ambulance and police car en route to the hospital. A woman inside the ambulance was reportedly suffering from heavy chest pain and needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible.

After telling the police officers to (expletive deleted), Ricigliano said "everything went sour" for the teen.

Police said officers emerged from their cruiser and approached the teen, triggering the bride and groom to jump to the young man’s defense.

"My little cousin threw his hands in the air and said something then the cop pulled over said he needed to lower voice in public.... my cousin said ‘my bad’ and the cop said your (expletive) right it’s your bad," said Amanda McCormick, 20.

McCormick said she stated to police that the way they were treating her friends and family was (expletive) ridiculous.

And that’s when all hell broke loose, McCormick said, adding that she stood in the middle of the brewing ruckus holding her infant son Austin in her arms.

"The bride and groom came out to help him and things started to go on an upswing," Ricigliano said. "Things got out of hand. The cops did their thing and now everybody is here (at police headquarters being booked)."

McCormick said the officers told her to "shut up bitch," then charged after the 17-year-old.

As they cuffed the teen, witnesses said the groom asked what they were doing to his brother and they allegedly responded by telling him to shut up or he’d be arrested as well.

As an early evening rain continued to fall, the bride’s tears melted into her not-so-fresh make up as she pleaded for police to stop, McCormick said. By then, the officer’s had placed her husband and her new brother-in-law in cuffs.

As neighbors began to peek from behind their blinds with the arrival of police back-up, one officer allegedly told another to "get that chick in pink dress," a witnesses said, recalling how a pair of officers grabbed the groom by the arms and "slammed her on the trunk."

"It was horrible," Ronald Schroeder said. "I had on a $900 Carlo Vilencio pinstripe suit with a silk tie, and my wife had on a couple hundred dollar dress on too. That should show you how bad of a day I had."

Schroeder alleged that officers used excessive force, all the while claiming that he was resisting arrest.

Though the details and degree of force that was used during the arrest remained a mystery last night, Ricigliano said the officers executed the arrests within the bounds of appropriate action.

The juvenile involved was also charged with purposely causing and creating a risk of public inconvenience annoyance or alarm by engaging in violent and tumultuous behavior.

The bride and groom were hit with an additional charge of preventing a law enforcement officer from making a lawful arrest.

Before the couple’s harmonious union was interrupted by their arrests, the pair had been married at the county clerk’s office by Cathy DiCostanza and were preparing to head out to the Town and Country Diner on Route 130 in Bordentown for their reception.

Schroeder said he and his wife will be spending this morning in court for the matter. The newlyweds were bailed out of jail last night on $250 each.

"I just came home and cracked a bottle Moet," he said. "Trust me, there is nothing worse than this. The only thing on my mind was my 1-month-old son."

Schroeder said he plans on filing a complaint with the Hamilton Police Department, alleging that he, his new wife and brother were beaten during their arrest."
