they definetly didnt try to make it easy to watch, but i guess that just isnt the point. though i love the characters, i really hope that nate and brenda dont get back together, it would end up bad for both of them.
i like her, but i think she and nate will destroy eachother
Brenda tried to be there for Nate last night and he was guilty and resentful after having sex with her. Brenda was bored in their relationship and he was excited because she fought committment. Seems every other woman has always wanted him exclusively. It's kind of hard to like Brenda remembering her having a threesome with the local teen age boys, while she was engaged to a loving Nate.
That was a disturbing episode.
Especially the predictable ending. However, I loved the tie-in with the death in the opening scene.
It was a very good season opener in my mind. Sets up some great story arcs.
i didnt catch it all, what was with the opening death?
**Spoiler**
Alas, I don't want to be a hypocrite.
The kids that were high on meth (or was it LSD)? And the guy jumped off of the roof. He was cremated in 1972 when he died, and went unclaimed. It was his remains that Nate used to give to the parents.
[It was eerie, because when I was an RA at Syracuse, one of our residents jumped out of his window high on acid... It was strange seeing things through that kids eyes... ]
oh! i understand now, i forgot about the begining after i got into the rest, i missed a few minutes of it and i thought they explained it while i was gone.
very intense ending.
CKeaton thanks for explaining that because I was going to watch it again to clear that matter up for me.
From an article I read, this season will deal more personally with each character and show how they evolve. Claire is going to make friends with gay girls in class, it looks like Freddy is getting an obsession with hookers etc. Nate I think gets a job dog walking. They said there will be more sex scenes and the gorier deaths or embalming shots. I don't remember which. yuck I really don't like Brenda much either. But she has a new boyfriend now and sees how Nate used her. I never really thought Nate loved Lilly that much and was surprised at his grief. I think he knew he caused her suicide. The new husband, George, has a few secrets, I think also. I am glad whiney Lilly is gone. She annoyed me.
i dont think he's so much upset at her death, but at the fact that he destroyed her. you're right, i think it's guilt.
I know it's just a series, but it's quite on the money with Nate's reaction to her death. When someone loves you as much as she loved Nate, when the love isn't reciprocated, then they die, you blame yourself for not loving them more.
it seems to (for me anyway) capture a part of the human psyche which is very seldom explored, at least by television. i think i'll be an avid viewer this season.
You can sometimes feel the show trying a bit too hard to be unusual or contrived, but in the next moment will be a scene that will haunt you for days
well, some people feel that way about american beauty too. i dont, but some do.
sometimes its a bit much. im not a fan of russel, myself

ckeaton, thank you so much. It bothered me all show that I couldn't find the tie in to the death in the prologue, and then I guess I missed it when it finally happened. Muchos gracias.
