re: Snow Day Once More

I am in college, and to top it off I am at Ball State. Ball State NEVER closes for anything! Last year was the first time they cancelled classes in 17 years so enjoy your snow day. (actually yesterday was worse with snow but it is currently 8 degrees out right now without the wind chill.)
My avatar is a reminder to myself. I need lots of reminders...

I teach in the NYC Public Schools and they rarely close. However this storm was so severe that Mayor Bloomburg announced last night that schools would be closed today. Yippeee!!! I could sleep late!

re: re: re: Snow Day Once More

I think it's amazing that he actually closed the schools the night before. Doesn't he look stupid considering the snow wasn't that bad.
I had patients from my office calling on Monday to cancel appointment for Tuesday and Wedsnesday. I said, "Why don't you just wait and see what happens. You might not have to cancel; it might not even snow." And I was at least correct about Tuesday.

By the way, those smurfs are back on top. lol

I live outside of DC and we haven't had school all week. This week we were supposed to take our exams.

The weathermen were kinda misleading for this one. They said it was gonna be huge! Yes, it did amount to something but I've seen far worse. I still think it was a safe bet to call off school just because you have to consider the teachers who live distances away, the students who do drive to school, and all the work to get your car out of the driveway. And plus most of the schools probably arent even plowed.

I love how New York makes such a big deal out of snow like its acid rain or something. Geesh...i'm from Maine we used to have snow like that every day:P

"[i] love how [n]ew [y]ork makes such a big deal out of snow like its acid rain or something. [g]eesh...i'm from [m]aine we used to have snow like that every day:P"

not to nitpick, but there are more cars in nyc than there are people in the whole state of maine. not to mention maine's vast municipal transportation system...oh wait, nevermind, it doesn't have one. i think it's safe to say that 10" of snow here has the potential to effect more people in more ways than the same 10" would effect the population of an equivalent land area in maine. the per capita population ratio being approximately 41 people per square mile in maine and 26,500 people per square mile in nyc. no, that's not a typo. so, i think ya might cut us a little slack on the snow.

Why are you giving me the facts? I have lived in NYC for over 2 years. And looking out my window today I don't see too much damage. Have you been to Maine papa? Don't make me shove a Lobster up your butt.

NYU never closes either. But like ive said before, my wheelchair doesnt get along too well with snow. I think its funny- they clean the side walks, they clean the streets. they pile three feet of snow onto the curbs. So I can go around my block... I just cant get off it.

it's apples and oranges, uniq. i haven't been to climax, colorado either as they are the snowiest town in america, but i bet they'd laugh at 10" as their yearly average is 273". but the point being, the coverage is representative of how many people will be effected. with the more cars on the road and this is particularly important in the outer boroughs (b.q.e, l.i.e., cross bronx, major deegan, etc.), there is a much higher potential for calmity with 10" of snow here than there is for 30" in maine. besides, people in maine are used to it, expect it and are accustomed to it. nyc's snowfall over the last few years has been lame. better that they overhype it and people are aware and exercise caution and avoid a 47 car pile-up on the gwb or the verrazano that kills 16 or so people. but yeah, nyers are funny that way.

Do you understand how bored i am? can you possibly imagine what happens to a teenage gay man who is stuck in the house with his mother and crazy-ass dogs all day for THREE DAYS??!?! enjoy your snow, love. at least someone is. i, for one, would rather take the SAT's five times consecutively than spend one more minute in this God-forsaken, energy-wasting, over priced, horridly-decorated, animal hair covered atrocity known commenly as my house. oh bloody hell...

how stupid is DC? it completely shuts down at the least hint of inclimate weather. These people can't drive in WIND! i've seen it! the nation's capital is the laughing stock of Canada, the midwest and New England, because we grind to a halt for two inches of snow. really, i'm just in a bitchy mood because i've been stuck in the house for three days and the plows have yet to clear my road. "hello, life? yes, yes i know you're busy at the momment, but i wanted to ask if you wanted to--hello? HELLO?"
Take me now jesus, and get it over with! maybe there'll be some gay strippers, waiting up in heaven for me...

mistress, i know you did not intend it to be, and i prolly should not laugh, but i think this is hilarious in a demented way. kinda like the government buying a $600 hammer. it's sad, but funny.
