My entire company was notified today that we have been sold (again)and that the CT office will close, AND.....we will all most likely be unemployed as of 12-6-08.
Lovely....and you know what? Oh well, what can ya do, that's life.
I'm calm, I'm cool and collected.....that's how the ball bounces.
Someone please remind me that I am calm, cool, and collected later in the year.....
thank you!

well I just figure nothing I can do about it, except do the job I've been doing.
I did email my last employer who I left on good terms with, and know I could go back, but I want to see how this pans out. I do not want to change jobs before the last day or I get no severance (or is it severence)....so I'll just do the job, ansd quietly look around.
thank you Deb for the added "fabulous"

I'm afraid we will be hearing a lot of stories like this in the near future, especially if Palin/McCain are elected.
You are on the right track ~ "quietly look around". When the axe does fall, it's always better to have any job than no job, even if it is low paying and not in your field. Stock up on bulk food supplies, so food expenses will be less if you do hit a rough patch.

otay, some one HAD to do it:
I'm calm,
I'm calm,
I'm perfectly calm,
I'm utterly under control.
I haven't a worry:
Where others would hurry I stroll.
I'm calm,
I'm cool,
A gibbering fool
Is something I never become.
When thunder is rumbling
And others are crumbling,
I hum.
Hm--hmmm--hmmmmm!!!!!
HMMMMM!!!!
H-M-M-M!!!!
I must think calm comforting things,
Butterfly wings,
Emerald rings,
Or a murmuring brook,
Murmuring, murmuring, murmuring...look,
I'm calm,
I'm calm,
I haven't a qualm,
I'm utterly under control.
Let nothing confuse me
Or faze me-- [yawn] --
Excuse me.
I'm calm.
Oh so calm.
Oh so--
[PSEUDOLUS (offstage):]
Hysterium!
[HYSTERIUM]
I'm calm,
I'm calm,
I'm perfectly calm,
Indifferent to tensions and shocks.
Unruffled and ready,
My nerves are as steady
As rocks.
I'm calm, controlled,
So cool that I'm cold,
Aloofer than any giraffe.
When something's the matter,
Where others would shatter
I laugh. [Laughs hysterically]
I must breathe deep, ever so deep,
Think about sheep
Going to sleep,
Stop and count up to ten, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9...when
You need aplomb
And want to be calm
'Cause life is a horrible dream,
Just count up to ten
Very slowly, and then--
PS start logging the potable office supplies. You've earned them.

"My entire company was notified today that we have been sold (again)and that the CT office will close, AND.....we will all most likely be unemployed as of 12-6-08."
You were valuable enough to the previous owners to work the CT office while continuing to reside in CA, so there's no reason to think you won't be valuable to the new owners as well provided you continue doing your job to the best of your (considerable!) ability. What's the veracity of the source who said you would most likely be unemployed?

oh Papa you sweettalker!
Wonder, the email from the president to all employees, which I found strange as I've been through this before and an initial email has never said anything like that with the other companies.
The new company is headquarted in Santa Barbara and Denver, so already being in CA gives me an advantage, but I also believe they use a few rep groups for sales, so that would be a problem, but....we shall see.

Goodness. I just read this.
I'm so sorry, honey, but don't worry, you'll land on your feet. You're just too marvelous...too marvelous for words!

I agree with Joe, and offered the same advice to another friend in a similar situation. Severence is important, but it'll be gone quickly if you dont have another job to go to.
All the best!!
