I've done the math: If I put aside $25 every week from now until the phone comes out in June, I will have enough to buy it!! (Time to bust out my money jar.)
Once again I am reminded what a great idea it was to switch from Verizon to Cingular last year. Woohoo!

Posted: 5/17/07 at 11:51pmAnyone who buys a first generation product deserves exactly what they are going to get. A overpriced (for the first year) product in which kinks and software issues have not been resolved. Wait at least 6 months for the second generation to come out. They get things more figured out by then. And yes.. that touch screen scares me.

Posted: 5/18/07 at 10:03amI'll never buy an "i" anything again. Overpriced pretty junk with a short shelf life. People are so gullible.

No 3G. We know you know, but still, it hurts man.
No over the air iTunes Store downloads or WiFi syncing to your host machine.
No expandable memory.
No removable battery.
No Exchange or Office support.
That right there is enough to convince me not to buy one. Especially for that price. And no 3G? That means it's going to crawl....especially on Cingular.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 6:22pmThe review I saw this morning said it takes forever to load, there is no key card to expand it's memory in any way, and you have to use AT&T's craptastic service exclusively. Also said that the battery is encased in it and that means you have to send it in to replace or service it - but it does have a nifty Apple logo on it.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 6:25pmWell just like the theatre, reviews will differ. All of the reviews that I've read so far (linked from macsurfer.com) praised the iPhone. I guess for some 'jealousy is bitch'.

Actually I was trying to find the video link - it was a review from a very well respected technology blogger who got the phone from Apple a week ago and has been using it for review. He does all of his reviews via video online, but I have to scour the local NBC website that aired it to find it. Maybe it sounds like jealousy to you Pab - but I think those are all very critical points to be concerned about.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 6:29pmWhat the heck does jealousy have to do with anything? I could afford to buy it, but have absolutely no desire to. Unless AT&T's service has improved tremendously since the switch to Cingular and back, I won't ever have them as a carrier again.

The NYTimes review linked on the Apple start page says the same things. The thing about having to send in the iPhone for a new battery after 3-400 charges could be something of a pain in the ass for people who don't have landlines.
Unless Apple is upping the ante after making the world safer for $250 disposable music players. Which wouldn't surprise me.
And, you can't really overstate the crappiness of the ATT network.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 7:14pmI had Cingular when AT&T became Cingular. I don't really get the switch back. Anyone have a short answer as to why?

Posted: 6/27/07 at 7:51pmI totally want one... second generation and when it's available on other carriers. Not worth switching to AT&T.

The acquisition/merger story of AT&T and AT&T Wireless by SBC, Cingular, and Bell South is a little complicated, but it all comes down to the brand. The new at&t as it is called is recognized brand and that includes wired and wireless communcations.
I can't wait to get the iPhone.

So much for Judge Green's decree to break up Ma Bell back in '83-'84. It's getting put back together piece by piece.
mejust, it's still AT&T. If accompanied by the globe, then it's at&t. Just thought I'd share.

So there's already a line forming at the Apple Store on 5th Avenue to buy iPhones...and apparently the first guy on line got on line on Monday! This is what I love about NY. :)
I, meanwhile, will wait for the second generation for the time being.
