I won't be joining in the Jeebus praising....
Glad to hear you are safe.
Just saw a child outside wearing a tshirt that said 'I Like To Kill Things'... What is wrong with their parents?!

First, like everyone else, glad you weren't physically injured..
Second, I'll add my voice to Gaveston's that now might be a good time to talk to someone about this, especially since, iirc, you're a vet (thank you for your service) and have had some experience with PTSD. You know it can take time to come back and hit you when you least expect it. Talking to a PTSD pro a few times could head that off or lessen or at least better prepare you for its effects.
Third: thanks for standing up to those little sh!ts to begin with, and following through by calling the police. The reason this kind of thing is becoming so common is that people don't take a stand.
Hang in there. Don't minimize your emotions or try to bury them. You weren't killed or physically harmed, but you've certainly been traumatized and this has likely brought up old fears/experiences. PM me if you'd like.

You're not safe anywhere these days. I was mugged in Nashville last year. I was knocked out. They stole my wallet, phone, and keys.

Sean, have you followed up with the police? It would be interesting to know if the rodents were known to them. Such misbehavior is rarely an isolated incident. Has the gym had past trouble with vehicle break-ins? Do they (or someplace nearby) have video surveillance that might have caught the perps on tape?
Also, did you hear a bullet or just the report of the gun (i.e. how sure are you that it wasn't a starter's pistol or similar)?
When I was held up I found that taking action, even if just looking at mugshots and looking around town, was far more empowering that passively ruminating on the event.
As far as the rest, keep in mind the vast majority of people are good, the anti-social psychotics few and far between.

The gym gets occasional break ins at Christmas, but they dont have any video camera or any other kind of surveillance. I havent followed up with the police yet, no. I want to leave it alone and let them do their job without my interference.
Yeah, I heard the bullet fly overhead. It's a sound I know pretty well.
Oh, and I do accept that most people are good. I mean, otherwise it would be complete chaos out there, right? I guess this is what surprised me the most: I mean, this is Canada. Yes, we have our violent crime stats, but you just dont expect to see 10 year olds with handguns.
Again, guys, I really appreciate the kind words of support. I havent been around here in a long time, and it's nice to see old friends again. And let us all be grateful that this is not the sole reason for my talking with you all once again.
Hey, what about that SPRING AWAKENING, huh? Was that a piece of crap or what?

Sean, I understand if you want to move on. But you do have "cyber-friends" here. Feel free to return to the subject if you need to do so.

Sean look on the bright side: At least you didn't have to listen to a Jim Colyer song.

Add me to all the others offering their sympathies--and very glad you're ok. Freaking scary--Canada or not. Not sure where you live (for some reason I think you mentioned Ontario,) but I'm curious what kind of news attention, if any it got.

Where I live in Jacksonville, two fifthgraders have been charged with the attempted murder of their teacher. They were trying to poison the teacher with hand sanitizer. Folks, this is the world we are living in now.

I see the mods are deleting my posts directed at the White Supremacist.
It's really pathetic they let him spam the boards, but when we want to tell him to roast in hell, it gets deleted.

^^ No, Jane, it is. It's fair. This is the point of boards like this. We share our experience about how crappy SPRING AWAKENING is and we also share our experiences that arent quite as pleasant.
It's all okay.

I'm doing okay, thanks. It was a little shaky this afternoon: just the weirdness of it all kicking in, I guess. But thanks for asking; it is much appreciated.
And again, let me underscore: thank you all. I really appreciate it.

Has it been all over the news? When I think of what the sensationalist media in my neck of the woods would do with it.

No, and to be honest, I'm hoping there wont be. I dont want these little brats to think they're getting one single iota of publicity or notoriety over this.

I dont know. I would assume so. But those would be kinda worthless if they've never been arrested before.
