I've been taking voice and acting lessons for three .I'm planning on auditioning to grad schools and I'm even considering going back to school to get a vocal or MT bachelor's. I've been looking for a real good soprano song that shows the hight range and acting. The only one I know of is "Glitter and Be gay". Any suggestions?
Thanks
Love is Where you Find it is another good one... it's from some obscure musical that I can't think of the name...
I love "Vanilla Ice Cream" from She Loves Me. Its funny and challenging
Hello, Oh Margaret it's You From The Telephone by G.C. Menotti
-Very cute song. It's hard to get a good cutting from it if you have a time limit.

"Say the word" By Brian Lowdermilk. Search for him. Amazing song.
I don't have any helpful suggestions, but I would probably try to find something other than Glitter and Be Gay. I'm sure they'll have tons of sopranos audition to that song.
Glitter and Be Gay is an amazing song, and while many people probably do do it, only so few can do it really well, so IMO, if you have a really great voice and could pull it off, go for it. Good luck!
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE be careful when singing Glitter and Be Gay.
Please.
On a more helpful note, try to delve into some opera even. Rather than musical theatre. If it's not specific to musical theatre, there are GREAT showstoppers by Bizet, Mozart, Verdi.
how about "wishing you were somehow here again" or "all for laura" from woman in white! the music is out now!

Not sure about this, but maybe 'In Buddy's Eyes' from Follies?
Poor Wand'ring One
Poor Wandering One is an awesome suggestion, not only does it have an amazing range it gives you a chance to be slightly comical w/o losing professionalism.
I would definitely search in the opera/operetta arena for these soprano showstoppers. I don't think you'll find many in musical theatre.
There is a really beautiful song from "The Secret Garden" that my voice teacher sang from me at the end of my last rehearsal. As a musical theatre kid I decided to take Classical Voice as a challenge, so I had a reward lesson after my last recitals with all my favorite broadway songs. Anyway, at the end she suggested this song . . . my memory is really shot after two weeks of performances, but it is a reeeeaaaaaalllly beautiful song that requires excellent tone and control to execute it well. I'm sure someone else could help you with the title, but just check it out . . . outstanding song. If no one else knows it I wil DEFNITELY get back to you.

Do you mean "Come to My Garden"? I love that song.
I second doing something operatic. Soprano musical theatre stuff is horridly low.
the song I was talking about from The Secret Garden is called "How could I ever know." Beeeeeeeeeeeautiful. Speaking of operatic the first time I heard "All the Wasted Time" from 'Songs For A New World" was actually sung by the famed soprano Renee Fleming. Shocking, I know. It is sang as a solo on her album with Bryn Terfel called "Under the Stars." I never heard the song before and I wanted to cry. It can be sung as a solo (evidently) and it is still music theatre with an air of operatic-ness . . . if that is a word. I have some issues with Renee at times, but of course, you make the song your own. Just two suggestions from one soprano to another. Also if you want something that is very active you could sing "If I Were A Bell" or "I'll Know" from Guys and Dolls" . . . just a thought

All the Wasted Time is from Parade.
Same composer, though.

"All the Wasted Time" is more for a belter. If you can do that, that's good, otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.
I've heard that Renee Fleming album. I love her to death, but she was just wrong for those types of songs.
Just Wave Hello -The song from the November 1999 Ford Motor Company tv advertisement featuring Charlotte Church. Thats a nice showy soprano song.
You can listen to it and see the video here:

If you want the ultimate, ULTIMATE soprano showstopper, you MUST turn to the opera literature.
If you are truly a gifted coloratura, you will kill them three times over and have them eating out of your palm with:
The Bell Song (Ou Va La Jeune Indoue?) from Delibes' "Lakme": 8 minutes, three octaves, staccato scalar runs, trills, no less than three high E's.
"Der Halle Racht" (Queen Of The Night's Vengeance Aria) from Mozart's "Magic Flute": sixteen staccato high C's, FOUR F's above high C, and a FIERCE triplet section that requires incredible vocal flexibility and melismatic clarity.
"Il Dolce Suono" (the Mad Scene) from Donizetti's "Lucia Di Lammermoor": two high Eb's and lovely vocal cadenza
The ultimate in rangy:
"Popoli Di Tessaglia" by Mozart...several fast ascending scalar runs, culminating in the only written G above high C in the entire operatic literature.
Have fun

is the bell song not the most incredible thing ever (when done right)? damn....now that requires some skill.
