Where is a good place to look for a prose piece? My coach picked mine out last year, and it wasn't very good, so I was probably never even in the running for finals in that event.
Help?

I was on speech team last year, and although i wasn't in prose ( dec YUCK!) my friend had a really good piece.
Once i see it again i'll tell you the details but it was about inner city kid gangs shooting type deal. She broke finals almost every time.
I'll try to give you the info tomorrow or later tonight if you want.

Posted: 7/22/06 at 9:59amHey fellow speech-ian! Te-he, that's what I call the speech members on my team. I was also in Prose last year. It was fun. I did a speech titled "Penny" by Leota Hulse Black. Even though it's written for a male, It can work with a female. I placed in finales 3 times, but It was my first year, so I'm sure I mabey could've placed more if I'd done it a couple of years later. You can also look at this site, http://www.brookpub.com, for more speeches. It's were our team gets their speeches from.

My friend did it this year, and it was her first year, she placed in finals everytime and went on to sectionals where she missed going to state by 1 point. It was her first year. Amazing piece but you can't mind lesbians is the only thing

I'm female.
I'll look into that, renthead, thanks!
Fingers, I was actually looking into this lesbian piece I found in a compilation, and it's really too long... I'll have to look into the one you mentioned.
Thanks a lot, all!

The Game by Donald Barthelme. It can be cut to 8-10 minutes. It's first person. Narrator is going a little crazy - s/he's in a missile silo and the replacement crew hasn't come.
There should be some good bits in Auntie Mame.
The Color Purple should have some good stuff.
It's been a long time - do people still do Go Ask Alice? If that has receded, you could do that.
Another oldie but goodie is Sixteen.
Depending on your district, you could read from Forever by Judy Blume....You may not break, but you'll get some responses!
