Spinach advisory

This has been all over the news, so I'm sure you already know, but if you, like me regularly indulge (ha!) in fresh spinach, be aware E.coli has been found in bagged spinach. Sounds like more than a light scare - pretty serious.

ETA: I always have Link issues on this site! So I just included the URL there.

I always told mom that spinach was bad for you!

This is all Popeye's fault. If he wouldn't have spent 100 years brainwashing our youth into eating that vile weed none of this would have happened.

re: Spinach advisory

DP, I think that frozen spinach is ok.

However, if something happens to you, just let us know and we'll be sure not to use it.

re: Spinach advisory

I just threw out 2 bags of spinach. Thank goodness I didn't open them. I live in one of the states where there have been outbreaks of E.coli. Frozen is ok to use.

re: Spinach warning

I changed the title. I know it's gonna be changed back but,
I think of adivsory as...a weather advisory.

A spinach advisory sounds...funny?

re: Spinach advisory

From the FDA's statement:

Based on the current information, FDA advises that consumers not eat bagged fresh spinach at this time.

If you advise someone, you are issuing an advisory. It's an appropriate term.

Now what I originally intended to post, I remembered this thread while standing in line at a salad bar today and decided to forgo the spinach.

re: Spinach advisory

They're now expanding it to any prebagged salads at all that contain any spinach.

If you have any, toss it out.

re: Spinach advisory

i just had spinach this week...do you have to eat it a lot to get E. ecoli, or can you get affected by eating it just once in awhile?

re: Spinach advisory

bwayondabrain-

I think it's WHAT spinach you eat, not really HOW MUCH.

Did you eat fresh spinach from a bag?
Also, you won't nessacarily get it...they are just taking the nessacary precautions.

Well, golly! No wonder people are getting sick and dying eating this stuff. BAGGED FRESH SPINACH. Aren't you supposed to take the spinach out of the bag before you eat it?

re: Spinach advisory

And it's a bit counterintuitive since bagged penises are the safer variety.
